well you have no choulce but to remove the manifold. then use a brocken stud extractor which they sell at crappy tire or sears.

you can also use a dremmel and cut a slit in the stud then use a flat head to screw it out.

either way the manifold and turbo have to come off.

There was a broken stud in the motor I just bought for my s13 coupe and I didn’t have an extractor kit or the time to get one. I drilled out the center of the stud and lightly hammered a torx bit into the hole (be carefull to get the drill centered and drill it straight so you don’t damage the threads in the head). once the bit is in the hole as deep as it will go (drill right through it, but not into the head… let off when you feel it poke through the stud), put your ratchet on it and SLOWLY turn it out, and hoefully it will come out.

This was just my cheap and quick method on a sunday night after stores were closed, and it worked great.

Good luck Vlad.

Heli-coil is the soundest solution. If you want it to last, drill the hole out, tap it, and install a helicoil.

At least its somewhat of a big stud, shouldnt be too hard to drill into it and then extract it. BTW wtf is a helicoil? someone has been talking about that for quite a while on SOn…

ok i used a mastercraft grabIT kit or something and i practiced on this other motor i had in my garage and it worked, than when i tried to do it on mine, the stud actually turned out a couple of turns than the thing snapped inside it, now icant even drill through, sol situation

How far is the stud sticking out of the head?

As long as it isn’t too far IN the surface I can tell you your best shot. Helicoil should be a last resort because it can be a PITA to line it up if you don’t take your time. Even harder when there is an extractor in it.

hey guys i got the stud out today, for everyones information its pointless trying to drill through another drill materia stuck in the stud, its pretty much hopeless, i used a cobalt drill tip to drill as much as i can than the thing turned with the drill than i tapped it out in a circle, i know it sounds easy, its NOT, do not trust mastercraft tools on shit like this, the cobalt kit by snap-on was much better, so were the diamond tip german drill bits

where did you find the snapon/cobalt kit

thats the stud that always breaks on sr’s mines broken

the kit was called SNAPON Blue-Point screw removal kit with drill bits, matching drill bit guides, matching hextaps and nuts that go over the hex taps, originally the drill bits were steel, but my dads friend got some cobalt drill bits from germany to match the sizes to replace the steel ones, the kit was ordered from a snapon catalogue long time ago by my dads factory, its not his, he just borrowed it from work

i think you shuold be able to get this kit from any snapon retailer, its a great kit, 100% worth the money

i also used some diamond tipped german drill bits to drill through the mastercraft pos stuck in the stud
