We had a customer come in today, with a 95 Ka-t dohc. The car runs rough at idle, and when you drive it as soon as you go over 50% throttle or over 4000 RPM The car starts jerking and sputtering and almost stalls. But when you are over 100km/h it doesn’t seem to do it as much. It looks like he had an adjustable fuel pressure reg installed, but the gauge is cracked and has been disconnected and hooked back up to just the stock regulator. It also looks like there was an SAFC on it at one point but someone has jerry rigged the stock MAF back on it. The check engine light is on but our OBD1 scanner is broken at the minute.
I think the problem is that the car doesn’t have an SAFC… or that the fuel pump isn’t creating enough pressure so the mix is leaning out and stalling on boost. So the real question is… is it possible to run a Ka-t without using a SAFC set up?
I took a closer look at the car… looks like the SAFC has been removed completely. and the wideband is wired incorrectly… I have heard alot about bikirom. Has anyone used this? Is it easier to use/more cost effective than buying a new SAFC and rewiring? Is there anyone around that sells it or do i have to order it from their website?
Its difficult to troubleshoot KA-T issues. Ka-t.org is the best bet, but nobody has the same build so troubleshooting all depends on what they have done. My KA-T build is just going to be a copy of someone elses, so if he has issues, so do I. Somebody has to standarize it and make it easy.
