Tonight I was driving normally, and i noticed a relay or two clicking erratically, i look on my dash, and i saw my e-brake light was on. two seconds after, everything just shut down, lights, radio, everything. BUT the car was still running… i pull over, check every single fuse, and they`re fine, except for one. The 75AMP alternator fuse. Car still starts and runs, but i got nothing electrical working in the car…
If anyone knows what the problem is, or where i should start looking, let me know…
Have you tried replacing the fuse? sounds like something shorted out as you were driving. If the same fuse blows again you will have to check the wiring that uses the 75 amp alternator fuse, which is probably the main positive wire that connects to the alternator. See if its shorting out somewhere, maybe the insulation rotted away and the wire touching the engine block or body of the car.
happened to me but i know how i blew the fuse. i was changing batteries and crosses the wires blowing the fuse. Id say try replacing the fuse, nissan sells them for 14 dollars. but ya check the wiring to see why it blew. id say get a 14 gauge wire and connect the wire to the blown fuse housing for now to drive the car. but its not always safe considering you dont no how the fuse blew. like MARTY905 said check the wiring first
I took out my alternator, and still the same problem, and i went through almost every single wire on the vehicle to no avail.
I was ready to scrap/part out the car. So I sat down, had a cigarette beside my car, while prepping myself to say goodbye to the car.
And there it was,
I found the problem, a wire or two in the body harness was exposed and was rubbing against my driverside fender, and made a hole right through my fender, ill take a pic of it to show you guys, and I pulled out my alternator for nothing!
I deal with automotive electrical sh*t everyday at work, so it was just a matter of time and patience until I found the culprit…
so drove the car home, it was in Newmarket, I did a temporary fix, so it wouldn’t short out. as i was driving, i realized it seemed like it didn’t have 1st and 2nd gear… so I took the side streets, just to be safe. I had a buddy of mine follow me from behind, just in case anything happened. made it home safely…
took my driverside fender off, and opened up the body harness and saw this
