HELP: Ticking noise from valve cover *PICS 2nd page*

Your oil should be fine, I don’t know why you would run thicker on a stock car though. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was hoping to beat on the car this summer so I figured I try something
a little thicker. Plus it was on sale. :dunno:

I have some 5w30 at home that I will probablly change to.

Ok, wtf. I took my valve cover off and there is a metal disc about the
size of a toonie that’s just sitting there. It definitely isn’t supposed to be there.

I’m gonna go take some pics. WTF! :noes:

Looks like some kinda seat for the cam lobes.

Wonder if I can bang it straight/proper :dunno:

Or if someone has a spare?

This was found near the 4th cylinder on driver side.

uh oh…

WTF! that looks like a valve head.

… well thats my vote.

WTF?

So where’ the valve steam then? Wouldn it have like fallen in side the cylinder or jammed some shit up?

In anycase, I dont think it’s the valve sine the surface on that disc seems
too smooth. Plus I saw under the other lobes and there are discs under them.

Just cant find which one this came off of.

Well thats just it … the WTF was because it makes no sense that it would be in the valve cover, unless it broke off and then the cylinder slamed it through … but the car would run like absoulte shit after that.

But that is EXACTLY what a valve head would look like (the part in the cylinder), sure its cleaner than most, but size, shape, and the little number in the middle is just like valve heads.

If it was a valve head you would be able to see where the stem snapped off. This in my uneducated opinion looks more like a shim.

Exactly. Doesn’t make sense for the valve head to be even up there.

I mean it’s inside the cylinder walls ain’t it?

But yea, this does it for me. Good bye KA. Going to be parting it out in a
few weeks. (156KM on it) :wavey:

I decided to look it up; 1993 FSM pg EM-29. Looks like we have a match.
As to what something like that happening means, I have no idea.

I might just replace the shim so I can sell the KA without losing too much $.

Still getting the SR though. Now or never. Too fed up with the KA.

It’s just a shim which Nissan uses to adjust valve clearance. Nothing too serious… I’m sure the engine is still ok…

Anyway, good luck with the SR.

Dude that is a shim. It looks like a shim from one of the lifters has come off during high rpm driving or something. Time to remove the cams and check all your lifters and possibly replace them. It might also be a good time to service your timing chain guides and tensioner.

The FSM tells you how to drop in another shim without removing the cams.

I will be doing just that. The chain rattles but has been for the past
couple years without problems. :dunno:

After the clutch and all that b.s work, rebuild and throw the t3/4 on G.

Looks like you need a new cam too dude.

That one looks mashed up in the 2nd pic.

How’d you pull this one off?

I’ve never seen someone have so much trouble with a KA.

Cam look fine to me. Must be the glare or something. :dunno:

I swear, f*ck the KA. Just a coincidence that I happened to have a shitty one. :frowning:

Don’t give up on the KA. An SR will give you just as many problems, its strange that the shim popped out, you must have some serious bad luck. Don’t give the KA is a great motor and probably the most under estimated since the losers at Super Street have been pumping that JDM crap for years everyone things you MUST have an SR. Just my 2 cents do whatever works for you. A friend just bought an SR and found out that it had a spun bearing and damaged crank he didn’t even fire the engine up.

I have never planned to do anything with the KA. I toyed with the idea
at times but never fully settled on the KA.

I’ve always stuck the SR for some reason.

Everyone has their bad lucks. I mean my KA only has like 156KM on it.

It’s practially a baby.
