Help With a Body Kit

you are doing this all yourself? I believe I just got impressed.

curt would be cheap if you decided to take it somewhere. He’s made some magic on a lot of body kits i’ve seen him do.

724-898-4688 i think

Yup, 724-898-4688

Go you for doing it yourself, but if you don’t have the experience then maybe you want to wait till you have some extra cash since you are probably going to have to buy some of the supplies twice… Have you painted a car before? I’m not trying to be a jerk, but maybe you want to take a body shop class at CCAC or something before you start. I’ve worked a little with fiberglass (the body on my Formula Ford has seen lots of action and repair work) and with that dark of a color you have many hours of sanding and swearing in your future. Anyone can just glue some panels to your car, but it’s going to take work to get it to look good. Just my .02 worth.

that should make life easier…IF they fit descent.

I like that color blue. Are you looking to get the big flakes or some small metallic flake?

what car is this going on? you got place it against the car fiberglass is a pain in the ass time consumeing and it sucks if you fuck it up once you put it on

Have you read anything preceeding?

“what car is it going on?” Did you read the post? - and only you could fuck up a kit as bad as your is LOL

i know it is fucked up ill get it to work you get what you paid for

good luck, i tried this type of project on my old 2000 cavalier and after that i know never to get a fiberglass kit always urethane

Yeah, I painted cars before. I wouldn’t experiment on my brand new car. lol. That would just be dumb. Like I said, the only thing I don’t know how to do is put the kit on, but I have a few ppl who have done kits helping me out. After that, I can handel the rest.

The flake I am getting are the standard sized. I didn’t want it to be too too dramatic. They are .015. Do you think that would look ok with my car being a dark blue and putting the Cobalt blue flake over it?

So what have you done to your car since you have asked questions about a body kit , paint an exhaust…and im sure there are some others in there?

from the side, i liked it. the front bumper looks blah. maybe it is the mesh.

as for the main poster-- save the moeny, pay someone to puit it on. 1st thing peopel notice about ur car is appearannce. dont risk fuckng up the car trying to learn. in addition, if you havent glassed b4, i dont see it happening on molding the rear quarter panels. not being a dick, but body guys have the touch that we dont. thats from experience and being around it to feel a high low spot liek nothing,

last question-- your car is fairly new. do u 100% own it? like it is not a lease/etc. as molding a kit on a car is about as smart as motor swaping a car, tossing the stock motor away, and trying to take the car back to the dealer when the lease is up (it has happened)

save your money and cancel your order. this kit will just depreciate the value of your car. for the amount of time and money youre gonna spend its not worth it. plus the molded fiberglass rear fender flares are gonna be fragile. fiberglass is brittle when molded to your steel fender and the panel flexes a little bit or gets brushed, sat on whatever, its gonna crack. Also the front bumper looks redic and is too low for pittsburgh. trust me if you daily drive your car, specially in the winter, say good bye to your hard earned $$$.

No, I don’t Lease cars. I like owning my own things. But the place I am putting my kit on is run by a body guy. He is letting me use all his shit to do this. He said he’ll even help me for free, so as far as professional help, I got it. I just found that out 2day.

Just a quick bit of .02cent advise, layer the inside of the kit with some more glass, especially the stuff in front of the tires, ive seen rocks fling up thier and crack the paint on the out side, and the way they build those fiberglass kits is cheap, do some stiffing bars if you can, and like i said before, fit it 1st before modifieing or painting it, just in case you HAVE to send it back.

^^^^^^^^^^very good tips for fiberglass^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Kristen please tell me what cars you’ve painted before and pics also?? If you’ve painted cars before then you wouldnt be asking some of the questions your asking???

WOW,57 posts and only 1 useful peice of info…Im glad to see a chick that doesnt mind getting dirty…I cant get my girl to change her oil.Anyway firstnbass thank you .there are alot of little tricks. On side skirts I use duramix panel adhesive.I test fit screw em in,take em off then put adhesive on put em on .let dry and remove screws then fill the holes. When mounting the front try to use washers on both sides of the main mounting bolts .It helps it from cracking…Molding is very time consuming.and most of what you put on youll sand back off.Just take your time youll appreiciate it more when you do it yourself.ps have an angle grinder around youll probably have to trim some off…pm me if you have questions.I am not a professional but ive done quite a few.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.when you get the kit.hold the pieces up to a light and look for thin spots and fix em also make sure all mounting tabs are where the should be and are big enough.thats where Ive had most trouble

Hold it up to a light, thats so easy and helps so fast, i never even thought of that, thank you. :blue:
