Not at most big companies you won’t. First interview is almost always with HR, who decide who gets to interview with the manager of the department you’re applying to.
HR people are impressed by confidence, communication skills, dress and a professional looking resume. They generally don’t try to test your knowledge to see if you really can do the things on your resume. That’s for the 2nd interview.
Dot. I have submitted resumes and not gotten an interview, but I have never gone on an interview and not been offered a position. I have actually been able to use a job offer as leverage to my current employer.
I know that some people might see some of these interview tips as stupid/ackward or whatever.
I have walked into multiple interviews wearing a full suit, to meet with someone wearing jeans. That is ackward, but imagine if I were wearing jeans and he/she were in a nice suit? You have to follow the book with this stuff.
My girlfriend just got a new job, went on interviews last week. 175 applications is 3 days. She did everything by the book, practiced the questions, wore the suit, the whole deal. She got the job.
It is systematic, play the game and you will get the job.
Yeah, different strokes for different folks I guess. I most likely won’t take a job that requires me to wear a tie. Not that I don’t like dressing up, but I don’t like that work environment. I am kinda like Peter in office space, I go into an interview, get comfortable, and just be myself. But again, like I said, everyone has different types of jobs they want, different requirements, etc…

^^ Agreed. I did not finish off my education, I went down a totally different path. Now the two paths are starting to come together, and I am really going to have issues if I do not go back and finish off the last bit left on the degree. I started in Finance and Management, and really didn’t like the finance side so I got into sales… Now sales and sales management are running into each other and Well, the degree is REQUIRED for the promotion or to move elsewhere.
