I would take the 2 jobs off that you stayed at for only 4 months, those are going to get you instantly not called back.

I have good reasons for not staying there.

Left Classifieds Plus to focus on college and finish my degree (Which is done now, so not an issue)

Left NAFS because they break every FDCPA collection law and I don’t want to do illegal things that are asked of me, or be there when the FBI inevitibly raids them.

Legit enough for ya?

Our age group is the worse off in the recession right now. Unemployment for 20-24 year olds is something like 20%.

I know my fiance can barely even find anything to apply too and is now broadening her search nationwide.

Guess the only thing you can do is keep looking though. Good luck.

I would throw in Reason for leaving: Pursuit of Higher Education.
Apply for the Independent Health positions justa4kids posted up.

Good idea on adding the reason for leaving line Joe, thanks!

Also include under the collections place
Reason for leaving: Company practiced and asked of me to break the FDCPA law ?

Yes our age group got the shaft.

Oh please, like you really give a shit about fdcpa? you truly feel in your heart you want to leave because they don’t strictly enforce it? I seriously doubt it… Everyone in collections breaks it at one point or another, its pretty much un-avoidable. i worked at nafs for years, i know how the place runs inside and out, and this surely isn’t why you’re leaving. There’s no chance of the FBI raiding that place or anything like it lmao Don’t put that bullshit “reason for leaving” down because employers aren’t retarded and will know its a croc of shit.

Regardless of the reason for leaving, working somewhere for 4 months, let alone 2/3 of your jobs were for 4 months, is going to get you 0 call backs.

Collections places have such a bad reputation for good reason. I think if a potential employer asked and he gave that answer in an interview, nobody except someone who worked for that company would think anything of it… would I put that on your resume: no, besides I don’t think you need a justification for leaving a collections job. Most people would applaud you for getting out of that business!

keep your head up. Like others have said, there are jobs out there if you know the right people.

trashing former employers in your resume is not real good in the eyes of prospective employers. leave that out.

+1

I’m reading resumes right now and I can tell you when I see one with two jobs where they left in 4 months it goes straight to the trash.

It costs way too much to spend months getting a new employee up to speed to take a chance they’re going to leave in the first year.

If you have an interest in sales and telecommunications (phone systems, data networks, etc) PM me. I think we are looking for a recent college grad that has sales experience.

We hire people who want to make careers tho out of being here and grow the company. If you are just looking for something to pass the time to find better, its not for you as they usually put a lot of time into growing staff.

Thanks for the correction. I actually thought they were spelled the same until now.

I always had great luck with putting “Temporary” for the jobs i took for a few months in school or between semesters. Shows you didn’t just up and quit.
JayS wouldn’t hire me though, because I have President of Canisius College Democrats on there under leadership. :frowning:

:mamoru:

Make the changes of your TEMP employment and dont put negative comments as mentioned above…

Don’t mention democrats either as Joe stated and you should be fine…

J/k on that last one…

Also sound opened minded and persue interviews. Call them, meet with them, let it be known who you are and that you want to work for them. That is the reason why I got Hired at the bank where I work at now. Not to mention I was picked out of 38 other applicants, whom 90% of them had Degrees and I do not

+1 on the “Temporary”, or “Intern” addition to your positions.

Additionally, NEVER bash a former employer, especially on the face of your resume.

The objective line is garbage. Most college graduates use that exact same objective line. I like objective lines, but it needs to be more detailed.

Finally, I’d rework your job descriptions and action statements. Employers don’t want to know what you’ve done, they want to know what financial benefit you will give them, especially in a market like this. For example: “Won several weekly contests for highest sales numbers in given timeframe”. What financial benefit did that provide for the company?

Just my suggestions… yes, it’s a tough market out there, but don’t lose hope.

You need to include the benefits of your accomplishments. Your resume is a big part of your interface with the hiring manager. They want to see things you do and are responsible and the outcomes. Dont be ashamed to include how the company benefited and such.

Good resume writing is key.

I absolutely hate the “objectives” section. I never even look at it. Change that shit out with accomplishments.

And in your bullet points for previous jobs. do not just give “I did this” statements, again put out what you actually did and accomplished for the company. “Earned a sales award for top ranking salesman with an average 1.4 million per month in revenue.” Somethign like that.

Jeez so many people knocking my resume…UB had a resume+interview class completely designed towards making a resume, and they editted my resume to look how it does now.

I guess they fail

Ya they def missed parts with yours. I am going off of things I have seen.

Def want to put your accomplishments. Also, get rid of the objective. No one does it anymore.
