Hicas Removal

Alright. I know this topic has been touched on a thousand times before but there are still things I need clarification for.

I’m not using a lockbar. I have the resources/time/ability to do the full subframe swap.

  1. Is the differential the same/compatible between Hicas and non-Hicas subframes? ( Hicas diff in a non-hicas subframe)

  2. Is the steering rack the same between Hicas and non-Hicas?

  3. Can you remove the Hicas ball joint from the rear knuckle and replace it with a bushing for a toe arm? Or do you need a new knuckle?

  4. If you use a non-hicas pump can you remove everything Hicas, including the ecu?

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

  1. the diff is compatable eitherway
  2. and the steering rack…ah the rear rack on hicas is a closer ratio than the front rack on either hicas or non-hicas but i believe on both models the the front steering rack is the same
  3. not completely sure…i believe so though

Hey Benjai, were you able to clarify your third question? It seems possible but I want clarification on this as well.

  1. Diff is the same in the R32 chassis, mine dropped into my S13 subframe

  2. Both racks are the same as far iirc from when I owned and s13 except the ratio.

  3. You should be able to buy the bushings that go in place of the balljoints, I was lucky enough to get new knuckles but contact driftworks in the UK as they sell a HICAS delete kit that utilizes a new bushing iirc.

  4. I am still running my HICAS pump in my R32, only thing I did was loop the lines, been running strong for 1 year now with no problems.

  1. yes the hicas balljoints can be pressed out and replaced with bushings for non hicas. Different knuckles are not required.

I ended up just doing a full rear end swap, not that much money and then everything is back to the way it should be + you get spare parts

Man i wish i read this before i did the swap last night. That is very funny i just saw this. I just did the swap and now i need this mystry arm for the rear lol.

I guess i will replace the bushing with non hicas ones and find the mystrey arm. does any one know where i can get one or know what it is called so i can get one???

Those would be the toe arms, you need those. And yes you need to remove that hicas ball joint, but goodluck doing it on the car lol, wont be easy. You’d be better off just getting a non hicas upright and swap em.

the front steering rack from hicas cars has a slightly quicker steering ratio

i think its 14 vs 17 or 13 vs 17 some shit like that

look it up in the fsm

It’s not that bad. I replaced both sides. Just heat the things when following this walk through:

Specialist, you will have to get those bushings at the dealer. Just ask tem
To show you the diagram for a non hicas car.

I have that tool thanks derass. Any one have that tow arm cheap??? lol

bing has fancy ones. theyll be worth the money. Ive twisted and snapped stock toe arms.
