HID Headlight Discussion.

But not really.

correct!!

Correct. The higher you go in Kelvin temp, the less usable light you get. It might look just as bright to your eyes when you look at your lights, but in situations where there is rain, snow, certain lighting…you’re getting less usable light by getting blue, purple, green, etc. HID’s.

My rule of thumb is 6000k and below. Nothing more. 6000k is still pretty good in terms of usable light and it’s not an obnoxious color. I have a 55w kit which washes out the color a bit, so mine look white with a very light hint of blue.

As far as glare/HID’s goes…every head light is different. Some glare more than others with HID lights. My generation Maxima, for example, glares BAD. This is why I have projectors retrofitted into my car (Acura TL Bi-Xenon projectors with a replica ZKW lenses).

Personally…unless my car comes with HID projectors stock, I will always be sending my headlights out to get retro’ed. When I drive my moms Subaru or my dads 92 Chevy, I can’t see crap. Properly working/setup HID’s are such an improvement in night safety.

Hell yeah!

Exactly. Do it right and they are good. n!g rig them and they are bad. simple as that.

Exactly what I was saying, using a proper housing/retro housing is the right way to do it and I’m fine with that.

Using an HID in a stock halogen housing in a 93 civic is retarted and blinds other drivers.

Well I was referring to my mom and dad having stock halogen lamps. I’m sure if they had HID’s I’d see more, but I’d blind other drivers since their cars don’t come equipped/designed for HID’s.

Edit: I agree with Shady 110%. I love my retro, and I don’t kill other drivers. Although I do get flashed sometimes, but some drivers are more sensitive to light than others (I’m one of those people generally speaking). Some nights, oncoming lights hurt my eyes more than other nights.

Its a 95. Thanks.

I wasn’t referring specifically to you…

What’s the difference between HIDs, projectors, and Xenon headlights? Or are they all the same?

i haz 6k HIDs…made custom eyelids to keep light down a bit…work well…i love them!

also was thinkin about smokin the headlights just a tad…(and removing eyelids…)
was also wondering if painting the insides of my houssings black would help at all?

bull SHIT

No shit, your missing the point.

Headlights with stock projectors on my 20 y/o Z ftw!

Im putting Stallmer’s old HIDs in my 94 Cutty!

who is this directed at?

HID is high intensity discharge. its just an acronym for that type of light.

Projectors are the housings. they have a glass lens in the front. thats the peice that looks like a glass sphere in there. regular headlights just have a reflector in the back and no lens upfront. its just the clear plastic piece on the outside of the headlight and you can clearly see the lightbulb in there.

xenon is the gas they put inside the light bulbs for HID lights that emits the glow.

Even installing and HID kit in a projector housing designed for halogen bulbs isn’t the best thing to do, you’ll get much more usable light from a properly retrofitted HID projector.

either your car comes with projectors, you do a full projector retrofit or you’re doing it wrong
