High Power RWD cars.

Is it just me, or do rear tires only last about 3000 miles.

depends on what kind… my dunlop sp5000’s have lasted quite a while now, and ive put them through a decent amount of abuse.

I had Sumitomos for my last set of rears (they’re the cheapest 315/35-17 in existance) and they were pure CRAP. I got less than 10k on them with no drag-strip use and only one AutoX on them before I got my other wheels and Kuhmo Victoracers. I only really did like one major burnout on 'em too and that was pretty much after they were shot. They were just as bad (and very similar to) the Goodyear RSAs that were stock on my car: rock hard and greasy yet wear quick. I lost traction going from a 245/50-16 Bridgestone Potenza RE730 to the 315/35-17 Sumitomo. My next set of rears is sitting at America’s tire: Nitto 555R.

Cliff-notes: I got about 8k on my last set.

you get what you pay for :dunno:

Yeah, I had very low expectations for them. I actually bought my wheels/tires used and paid less than just the wheels generally go for used w/ 4 new tires (all cheap-os though, Kuhmo 712s up-front and the Sumitomos out-back). I figured I might as well run 'em 'till they were bald.

ha my old Futura Ultra-Z’s lasted 700 miles but that on my car is almost 2 yrs :dunno:

Futuras are shit… i knew a guy that had them on his teg & he had to go back to pep boys 2-3 times to get them replaced cause of bubbling/imperfections in the side wall.

My rear tires only last a summer… which is much less than 3000 miles. Then again they arent made to go for very long.

they stopped replacing mine :kekegay:

i don’t have high hp or rwd… my fronts last 3k to 8k miles.

perhaps you didnt notice, but the thread title clearly denotes “High Power” rwd cars. kthx.

 i thought i only had that problem with them…

I dunno if you would consider my car high hp or not ( i think it is - just not compared to a z06 or blue’s car) and i dont get a whole lot outta my tires either… i had a set of 500 treadwear tires last year,… got them in february, and they needed replaced in September… but i’ve heard that f-body’s eat tires like crazy… which i’m sure that’s the case w/ all high hp rwd cars… so i got my new wheels w/ Bridgestone Potenza re9XX tires on them (can’t remember the exact model) and they arent’ doing too bad… but not a whole lot better… they are a 400 treadwear… i’m not real pleased with them either…
i wanna get soft tires from now on… i know they say soft rubber wears quicker, but i’m not so sure it would for me… with really hard rubber, i can’t get the tires to grab… all they do is spin, no matter what weather, no matter what pavement…

Have currently about 3k on 712 Kumohos 245-50-16.

the best tires i have owned for the rain :kekegay:

Don’t forget that treadwear is only comparative for a given manufacturer. A 400 Goodyear should last twice as long as a 200 Goodyear, but a 400 Firestone may not be the same as a 400 Goodyear.

It’s all crap anyway unless you drive like their tests.

eh, I consider high power, anything over 350-400hp

damn, I just barely miss the cutoff by a few hundred HP.

hahahahaha…

i go through tires decently…get new tires before every winter :burnout:

my kuhmo 712’s last a summer n thats it … so im happy w/ em they dont grip for shit but they are decent enough for daily driving and good in the rain

ok, so it’s not me then. I got a total of 1850 miles out of my BFG KDW’s. 275/40/17.

I’m just wondering how long my new 315/35/17 BFG DR’s last. and My 315/30/18 Goodyear Eagle GS-D3’s last.
