HKS BOV install on a stock 180sx

Hey guys

I was just wondering if I can just clamp off the recirc valve when i install this bov. Will the car run like garbage I have the ssqv bov and a stock 91 sr20’d 180sx.

Justin

yeah you can block off the stock re-circ and run that… but i guarantee you will start seeing annoying little air/fuel issues if you vent to atmosphere, ssq or not.

your best bet is to re-circ the ssq (it will still be way louder than stock recirc if thats your concern).

Never had a problem with an VTA Bov here. No stalling, no rich issues

Ditto

No problems here with my atmo-vented SSQV.

thanks for the replies guys! one last question, that thing stickign outta the back of the BOV, where does that go… where do i hook that up to? it looks ilke some sort of vac line. I’m going to try venting to atmosphere, if that doesn’t work i’ll getta recirc adaptor :D. Oh and do u guys know an easy place to clamp that hose?

i recirculated my SSQV just because it got really annoying. you can still hear it though. not as bad. :finga:

There is no way around it, you WILL be rich between shifts when venting to atmosphere, and you WILL lose a touch of response after each shift, but how much depends on your BOV, and your engine. I personally had huge problems with my car when venting to atmosphere. So give it a try, if it doesnt work, then just re-circ.

I had an SSQV HKS on my factory sr, which cause problems because of the stock bov. My cars rpm would drop considerably on idle, down to around 300-400. Actually having to tap the gas a few times while coming to a stop. I believe on a factory sr, you have to completely remove the stock recirculation valve and setup. Most people who have bought SR swaps have zero problems installing a bov, simply because their engine was stripped of the recirc valve. And if you go to remove the recirc unit, its easiest to go in through the left front fender, just remove the inner fender and go at’er. Cheers

edit - And I forgot, if you were to go to a FMIC you would have no problems except for wether or not to recirculate your atmospheric bov.

I installed the HSK SSQV and hotpipe on my brother’s 180sx with SR20det. His also has a cone filter and a catback. I didn’t have any problems with it VTA, idles perfect, doesn’t stall. I did however remove the stock BOV completly and blocked off any places where the stock BOV used to run. Good luck.

ITERESTING?
Some are having isues , some don’t…so share ur set-up…
Is everyone has their maf in the stock location? those that don’t recurc…
Also anyone running safc/standalone ecu or chipped ecu?

I mean maf counts air molecules tells ecu about it, ecu than looks up our fuel map and tells injectors how long to stay open etc. So if somewhere those air molecules escape(BOV) ecu doesn’t know about it it still injects extra fuel. But if everyone run’s identical set-up, I guess it depends on how much boost you run and condition of idle valve, o2 sensor and ur static fuel pressure. As well what ur ecu targets in boost as far as A/F.

what parts are required to uninstall the factory recirc valve? i gotta get this done b4 next friday cuz im insuring teh car then

the easiest way is just to plug and/or remove the vacuum line going to the factory re-circ.

hahahha SSQV is soo damn annoying

hahahha SSQV is soo damn annoying[/quote]

those things are pussies, like those whistles for NA exhaust system to fake the sound of turbo… POS older HKS bov’s are so much better, actually straight sex. :finga:

I have a greddy type RS and i had to re-circ to behind maf so the car wouldn’t do that idle drop. So if you do have problems, block off your stock recirc valve and when you hook up your bov try to recirc it back to behind the maf.

greddy type RS FTW!!!

Supposedly BLITZ SS are really good

X2 MILLION

Beyahhhhh
