still cant get onto espn but got on to nhl.com and readsoem things looks like crosby wants to come to pitt to play, found a nice quote from him:

Crosby would be silly to not want to play here… With the new collective bargaining agreement, its going to be an even playing field, which really takes away alot of the allure of Detroit, New York, Toronto, etc… PLUS, he gets to play with his boyhood idol for a couple of years. And, our team is young with some great talent. Fluery in goal, some of the youngsters across the blue line that have really matured, and then if we can figure out a way to get Malkin to sign with us and get him over here instead of staying in Russia, man we will be golden.
Anyone think that Malkin will want to sign with us more now that we got Crosby?

i’m sure Malkin will sign. i would think that they will play crosby this year, wouldnt u think? i would guess they would. i mean, they played Fleury when he was 18 so makes sense to me. on the other hand, i wonder if getting crosby changes the way we shop for free agents now? no kovalev now?

That is a pretty bold statement about lemieux.
he didnt really play in 03-04. but in 02-03 he was the teams leading scorer… and he had almost twice the points that the second place guy (straka) had. thats hardly washed up.
plus, its not like there was anyone else on the team worth gaurding so he basically had 5 guys hanging on him everytime he was out there.
They just redid Malkin’s contract in Russia, and we have no “Exchange policy” with that league to try and get him here in the states. With the new CBA, he wont be able to make the $$ hes making in Russia until 3 years into his first contract. But, now that we have Crosby, Fluery, Lemieux, Caron, Tarnstrom, Orpik, etc… we have a hell of a nucleus, you would think he would want to play here.
Craig Patrick said that he will play Crosby in the NHL this year. I agree with the Fluery thing, if we played him, then we have to play Crosby. I was sorta pissed when they took Fluery b/c they had some decent players in there that were skaters, as well as Tampa Bay wanting to trade Brad Richards and another kid they had for a player to be named and the #1 pick. But, now that we are going to have Crosby, that was a hell of a move. Thats why Patrick is one of the best GM’s in the NHL.
I would think that getting Crosby keeps us the same in free agency. We still could use a power wing to score 20-25 a year, maybe somebody to play onthe opposite side of the wreckin ball. I think we go after Kovalev, and that defensemen from Chicago, Zhainov or something like that… I think those are the 2 need positions we have right now. Plus, maybe trade one of our other goalies (Aubin most likely) and try to get maybe a serviceable defensemen or a tough guy (I’ve heard rumors on ESPN about Tie Domi) to come in and solidify the team and protect Lemieux
ya, hopefully we’ll still get kovalev. i keep hearing rumors of us getting a vet goalie, so that could help MAF develop by spiltting games w/ whoever we would get. we dont have Aubin anymore. he was playin in Torontos minor league system.

Anyways, you’ve been hearing a vet goalie? Sounds like a good idea to get MAF a decent support system around him since he’s only 20. Any names you’ve heard thrown around?
