Since this is NYSpeed and its 90% home stuff and 10% cars this might be a big deal for a huge number of active users :tspry:

Just another reason to never use a debit card.
If they get my Amex, oh well. Quick phone call to have the fraudulent charges removed and on with my day.
PIN auth is going to become a thing here in the US very quickly I think.
EDIT: And Lowes is nicer, but Home Depot often has better prices.
I NEVER use debit. I don’t like to give any person/company a direct line to my money.
lowes is nicer, and the people are nicer. I just hate going to home depot, everything seems un organized and tossed around
I use debit a lot, but most of the time charge it as credit. #NFG
Your best in all situations is to never use a debt/credit card tied directly to a checking account and use an actual credit card.
Every CC company will just about instantly drop fraudulent charges.
It’s cool though someone told hackers about the fucking mess healthcare is which is much worse since you can get SSNs.
I used to avoid using my debit card online but would use it everywhere locally. Now it’s 100% Amex Cash preferred anywhere Amex is taken and a fall back to my Wells Fargo Visa if they don’t take Amex (or cash at local small businesses to help them out with the CC fees). Not only does this protect my checking account balance but I’ve been averaging about $100 a month in cash back on the Amex for over 2 years now.
FYI guys, most homeowner’s/tenant policies now have the option for ID Fraud coverage. I try to include 25k on all my polices. Credit card companies usually foot the bill, but a debit card may not have the ability to do so if the bank doesn’t stand behind it. If your SSN is taken, there is no CC company, so this comes in handy, should you need it.
You can also get free healthcare! A medical record is worth anywhere from $50-$1000 on the black market. Credit Card numbers area worth only a fraction of that.
My credit card gets shut down about every other week. “There were some suspicious charges on your card.” Oh… yeah… the grocery store a few miles from my home? Yeah that is really weird huh?
I can’t understand why anybody would used a debit card in the age of 2% min. cashback credit cards.
lol in the past year I’ve had BofA send me 5 new cards because “an undisclosed retailer has been compromised”.
Yeah I have BoA and I hate them.
Well looks like the next quarter at work will be even busier, this is why we will all have chip cards by the end of 2015.
October 2015 is just a liability shift you will still see swipe for a while.
Beyond that chip and pin doesn’t apply to online transactions.
That liability shift has been driving my production schedule for the past 6 months or so. You’ll have small issuers that will be slow to transition to them but your big banks and issuers are pretty committed as of now. You’ll see swipe for a long long time because of the retailer end of the system, we still have places that make the carbon paper copies of your card lol
I replaced a Bank of America card and Amex last month both showed up with chip & pin.
Fixed. Then all of our problems will be over!
