Honda/Acura Dealer Connection (Cutting and Programming Switchblade Key)

Hey guys,

A friend of my is interested in doing this DIY:
http://www.v6performance.net/forums/showthread.php?t=80815

Basically, he’s going to purchase the 07 TL switchblade key and use it for his 7th gen Accord.

There’s another DIY here for switching the immobilizer chip from Accord’s key to the new TL key. However, it might be easier to just reprogram the key and/or car.

So, anybody knows somebody working in Honda/Acura dealer who can help cutting the key? I heard that the dealer might cut the key for free, however, around $20 or so for programming.

Thanks.

i think a cut is around 50 and a lil less for programming. for a new key for my car its a 05 civic they want 140.

^omg.

On those DIY pages, they said it’s only around $45 for the key, $20 for cutting and another $20 for programming. However, guess what, it’s 2 years ago (and not in Buffalo).

Now, I checked www.acuraautomotiveparts.org, the key itself is around $60. Not to mention the cutting and programming.

Btw, where did you cut it? Lia/Don Davis/Ray Laks/West Herr Honda?

i didnt yet, i only have 1 key for mt car so i need to soon. i called a few months back and it was about 140. that was at Ray Laks.

all my audi/bmw keys have been cut for less then 10 bux… same proccess

lol who do you know, and can they cut honda keys?

i got my bmw key cut at the locksmith on elmwood near allen… forget the name… its near KFC, in some plaza down there…

But they do it… took 10 minutes, in and out… most lock smiths can cut that

yea but im talking about a key with a chip inside. it needs a program after its cut. i am thinking about going on egay and getting a blank just to have it cut for a extra key to unlock my doors if i lock my keys in the car.

^given it’s E46-looking BMW, I suppose the key has some kind of chip inside as well?

id think so but for $10 it cant be. must just be a valet key

God i hate shon.nv

But anyways, i was going to do this as well, but with a 6th gen accord. That involves getting the key machined to fit the lock. Never got around to doing it yet. Some place online sells the key machined for $120, kinda expensive.

I have a spare key i need to get programmed, and i called lia and ray lacks and they both said about $60 to program the damn thing. Not including the cost of the key or cutting. You should be able to get it done for $60 or so. They normally cut it for free if you get it programmed.

damn, with $60 just for the key itself and $60 for programing + cut…that makes it $120.

Pretty expensive DIY…hm.

If you look around, i saw that key for low 40s shipped and new…

But its not exactly cheap. I would only do it if i needed a spare key, and i do.
