I have a 99 civic si and recently had the timing belt snap. i bought a new one but am not sure how to go about timing it correctly as in if there are any marks to align the pulleys or if the piston needs to be top-dead-center and what-not. I’m not to familiar with hondas, so if anyone has any input that would be nice. thanks
Dude if the belt broke check the head. The valves could be spent
^^^ beat me to it :ohnoes
If the head is ok, you have to set the crank pulley to TDC, then line the cam gear marks up with the TDC marks on the plastic cam gear cover
head is not ok. belt snapped on intefereance motor. done.
~5% chance it is ok. OP, do a compression and/or leakdown test first
Not true if he was at idle the head could be fine
i hope its not spent. but it most likely is.
I voted timing #2. Thank you.
