people can have their opinions, but their reasons for having said opinions, sometimes suck.
I haven’t owned a Civic but I’ve owned three Hondas (two Accords, one Odyssey). Have great respect for Honda as a manufacturer. They think through basic stuff like ergonomics, ease of use, practicality, etc. At the lower end the cars don’t have much character or soul, but don’t forget Honda makes S2ks and NSXs too.
I think most people would agree that Formula One is the pinnacle of automotive technology. Honda’s 1.5l V6s were making well over 800 hp/liter, lasting entire races while seeing five digit redlines and 50+ lbs of boost. Race data was being transmitted back to the motherland in real time in order to gauge and improve reliability. And this was 20 years age, before little G-tech meters and internet…
Much technology comes from motorsport, and what Honda has done is bring this to the masses at a price pretty much anyone can afford. Sure, it’s nice to wind out an F430 to 8500 RPM in a tunnel. But not everyone can afford that. Almost anyone though can afford an SiR, Type R, S2k, etc and enjoy some of the brilliant engineering that Honda puts into their racing machines, knowing that the engine will last because it was built for those piston speeds. As an engine manufacturer Honda is near the top of the heap. If Honda wanted to go out and build a 60 valve V12 putting out 650 hp on motor alone, they could. They just don’t do it because that’s not their mission. Their main mission is to bring race-derived technology to the masses in practical reliable vehicles, while making an occassional “wow” car to prove that, yes, they are more than just an econobox and yawn-sedan maker. And this they have definitely accomplished.

How are the doing that? s2000 is basically the only performance car they have. Unless I missed something?
I guess one example would be the variable valve timing technology… This is derived from racing and is in Honda’s “practical reliable vehicles” ranging from Civic to Odyssey. When I say “practical reliable vehicle” I do not mean the S2000.
I guess I just don’t agree with the terms “race-derived technology” and the current Honda car line. The Civic, Accord, etc… just don’t scream “race” anything. :nono

I hear what you are saying. The world is a cruel place. People judge you by EVERYTHING including your car, what you do to your car, what clothes you wear, etc… And yep, everyone has an opinion and some are backed and others are pure bias.

He has a point at least in my opinion when he refers to the Honda/Acura being riced out/modded like shit. The majority of ones I see are like that.
But not everyone dose that…for instance mine is a 91 acura integra gs…besides the rims and exaust theres nothing non-factory about the apperance
some people think ANY modification to a honda is rice tho. take my civic for example. Its slammed. BAM Automaticly rice in some people books.
I dont try to play it off as being fast. Its far from even being quick.
By race-derived, I mean exactly that the car has technology DERIVED from racing, as in it was used in racing and the technology made it’s way into passenger cars. I don’t mean to say that the cars are “racy” in any way, shape or form. I think this is a misunderstanding.
In fact, I said later that Honda builds a “wow” car once in awhile just to show that they can. And by that, I meant the S2000 and/or now discontinued NSX. Now whether that is “wow” to a person or not is entirely up to them. But in my own opinion, those two cars are definitely not average or plain.

I am aware it is statistically impossible for everyone to do that. I am just saying that the majority of modded Hondas/Acuras I see, are complete shit. Down here, it’s much worse.
