Hondas...

The new Accords are so sick… and I’m not even being biased on this one. Its one of the few Hondas that doesn’t suck.

Yea, I dig the look. I need to test drive both. I might be a puss and get the 4 banger for the MPG.

hmmm did you know that Soichiro Hondas son,Hirotoshi is the Founder and CEO of Mugen Motorsports?

Hence the ties between the two

it’s a K20 :haha

I have no hate for that motor? I could care less if it’s a B-22 or Z-34.

Please do, I’m very curious to see which car you will be more fond of. Accords just keep getting better and better and are becoming an FWD 3 Series, I’d would be interesting to see what you say after you test drive them.

I think they are both going to be similiar: very good. They just keep making them better and better.

I test drove a 08 Accord EX just yesterday and was blown away, what a great car for the money. I think its hard(if not impossible) to get more of a car in the low 20’s Its not the fastest car going, its not the best handling, but it offers more then any other car in its price range all around. It was a nice progression for the Accord, exterior styling is undeniably better, interior is more a matter of personal preference, I preferred the previous generation in terms of styling, it was more conservative, though I can see how people could prefer the retro look. Things that impressed me most: braking, fantastic balance and even better feel a huge improvement over the previous generation, trunk space is now of epic proportion and rear passenger comfort is greatly improved.

I owned a shop for 13 years and have said many times, if all cars were built like Honda I would not have been in business. I certainly don’t worship them and think they are the end all, but in terms of trouble free driving, they are second to none. There are some black sheep and a few common problems with some of the models, but if you avoid a few bad combos(like V6’s with auto trannys from the late 90’s to 04) the cars are your best bet for reliable, long lasting vehicles. My Acura TSX was my favorite car I’ve owned to date, while certainly not a rocket, it was a great car and I kept it longer then any other car I’ve ever owned, which says a lot to me. A few light mods made it a lot of fun drive, the “fun to drive” factor is much more important to me then speed(which always wears thin, eventually) and reliability is a must, I hate fixing cars - it may have something to do with having done it for so many years for a living.

No car is perfect, no engine is perfect, thinking so is just ignorance. Find a car that suits your needs and wants and enjoy it. It also allows you to appreciate other cars for their strengths, and other drivers needs and wants. We are all individuals with completely unique life experiences that have brought us to present day, to say someone else is “wrong” based on their decisions that have led them to the choices they chose shows someone who is narrow minded and unwilling to grow.

I would not own any current VW or Mitsubishi products made, but that doesn’t mean I don’t see why some would and I’m glad that there are different cars so we can all have our cake and eat it too.

Pretty sure they redesigned from an already existing design.
The first functional variable valve timing system, including variable lift, was developed at Fiat. Developed by Giovanni Torazza in the 1970s, the system used hydraulic pressure to vary the fulcrum of the cam followers. The hydraulic pressure changed according to engine speed and intake pressure. The typical opening variation was 37%.

Even IF they designed it, aren’t most companies using similiar technology?

Every company has to, to meet emmissions standards.

Honda used two different cam lobe profiles to alter duration and lift, instead of changing the relationship of the cam/follower. It’s completely different from the Fiat system, and I doubt any elements of the design were used as a basis for VTEC.

Is that a joke? Thats like saying einstein’s theory of relativity didn’t spark a multitude of theory, thought and invention. So VVTI is invented, they(honda) act like they’ve never heard of it, then they claim to have invented it. Sounds fishy to me.

I did not mean to say that Honda claimed to have invented the concept of variable timing/lift etc. I just said that from a design standpoint Honda’s design is clearly different from Fiat’s.

If anything, some modern systems are an offshoot from Honda’s basic design. Also, with the complexity of having to add a means to vary the follower’s fulcrum point, it would seem that Fiat’s design would not be conducive to lightening valvetrain parts, which are important for modern (relatively) high RPM use. Fiat’s system, while the first to be patented, never made it to production.

So Honda’s cars are equiped with 130HP and 30TQ equipped by 2nd party VTECH technology?

Get it right! It’s 31.5 TQ! ;D

Hah. Glad someone has some humor.

Don’t forget the 15% drive train loss.
