Hoosier R6 Tires For AutoX

Has anybody run these tires at autoX? they do not make 19" tires in the A6 compound to fit my car, but they do make the sizes i need in the R6 compound. Im primarily looking for a road course tire, but obviously i want something that can withstand autoX as well anybody had any experience with either?

I know people always jump all over your shit on here, but I’ve gotta ask…

Why?

why what? why am i looking for good tires? or why 19"

as far as the why 19" the front BBK on my car is 15" and forces me to run a 19" wheel up front…

Why are you looking for Hoosiers? Are you going to be nationally competitive for autocross? Going to regionals even? Actually open wheel racing on road courses?

hoosier is teh only company that i found so far that makes R comps in my sizes, besides Pirelli P zero Rossos… and yes im planning on continuing with this car alot, not as much this year as i am still learnign the car and RWD, but next year i will continue doing a full season with the WNY-scca and regional races… and 3-5 track days a summer with it…

Learning + Hoosier = expensive and dangerous. Why not learn the car on high performance street tires?

I’ll leave the thread alone after this, but it doesn’t make sense to me to spend like $1000 on race tires that you don’t need at all.

Brent is 100% correct, even by your own admission you’re still learning, do not buy hoosiers, even next year. This is my first year playing with race tires and I’ve been doing events (SCCA/PCA/BMWCCA) for 4 years and I still wont take them on a road course (other than Dunnville/TMP)

aren’t the A6 ones intended for more autoX, and the R6 more drag intended?

i read the info on both on tire rack, and that’s what i think it said…

R6 is for road courses…

and im only learning this car… ive been doing autoX for 4 years (i believe this is my 4th season)

i have decent street tires (toyo t1R’s) and have been suffering from traction problems @ autoX pretty badly

i would go with Kumho’s if they were avail but they are not

Then I would get a DOT R like an RA1, not Hoosiers.

The R6’s are fine for autocross. They’re meant to heat up and wear slower than the A6’s since you’re obvioulsy putting strees on them for an extended period of time at a track.
My only word of caution would be that you should not expect to run all the events you’ve mentioned on one set of tires, so it can get expensive quickly, so keep that in mind.

i would even settle for friggin azenis if they could come in 19’s

Learn on the hard compounds like RA-1s, Z211s, Kumho V700s, win on the soft stuff like Hoosiers, Z214s, V710s.

Are you learning or trying to win?

im trying to win…

I would <3 to buy used…but the guy who had the used Rcomps for 19’so n ebay was supposed to be holding a whole bunch for me as we could not ship them in cold weather, and he sold through them all…

Then shouldn’t you be at least faster than STS class on street tires?

I’d just wait until the eBay guy gets more tires in, I refresh that page at least 4 times everyday.

I mean what are R6s on tirerack in your size? $300 ea., $1200 a set. You could buy an ungodly amount, chord the hell out of them every event, and still have enough left to do all track days and a full season of auto-x.

i would be in STS if it wasnt for teh brakes on the car… which actually SLOW me down @ autoX…

im still learning the car right now… i was going to stay on street tires @ autoX this year and use teh r6 for two HPDE and some lapping days this year this year and then use them @ autoX next year

Actually your car is specifically banned from the ST classes. But even if it weren’t, it would be in STU, not STS.

so we were right that im correctly classed in SM right

it has H&R coilovers and the BBK front and rear (and axle back exhaust and carbon trunk)

yes, you’re fine for SM. Yeah, don’t worry, they may both have “Street” in their name, but they’re both totally different.

yea i know the differances… just wanted to make sure we didnt overclass the car
