Okay… so when I bought my car back in 2004 and was driving one day and was approching empty on the tank I noticed the fuel light had not came on yet (Which I found odd, because any other car I’ve owned, right in near that E, she’ll start coming on/off and then just stay on) so I wonderd… does the friggin Fuel Light even work and I got worried so I put in Fuel but I figured out in 04 that I just had to give it some time and the Fuel Light would indeed come on
Well check this out…
I wonder how much lower it’ll go because as you can see, the Fuel Light hasnt come on yet. I didnt really pay much attention to it previously as to how far it actually dropped under Empty but on my way home today I thought damn! but the thing is too when I fill up, she goes right up just slightly past the Fuel Mark so I know Gauge works some what proper, I’m just amazed at how low it goes until the Light comes on…
Anyone else notice this ? or does anyone have the oppisite where it seems to stick @ fuel forever ? lol
Nope my sending unit is actually in prime shape so I know thats not causing any problems. I was even extremely careful when I installed the Walbro when removing everything from the Tank not to bend the arm on the floater or whatever its called…
But anyway… I went for a drive to pick up some stuff and get gas and I got approx another 15km’s before the Fuel Light came on and stayed on and then I got gas a couple minutes later
when i fill my tank up, it doesn’t reach the F line entirely…anyone realize that? and i’ve never let my fuel guage go near the E…i heard its not good for the car…
My fuel warning light comes on when the needle hits the E line. I could go probably at least another 50 km’s or so before the car were to actually “die”. If you’re not seeing a warning light at that level of fuel, something is most likely not right, be it the gauge or warning light/fuel system etc.
This is normal for most any car (giving decent warning time before gas totally runs out).
That said, I pretty much never let it go below a half tank, myself.
yeah same, I think its because your fuel pump has to work harder to get fuel, my uncle had to replace the Pump in has Avalanche in a year bacause it was always under 1/8th tank lol, he’d put in 10 bucks at a time (and the tank on those mother’s are over 100 litre). What are the tank sizes for the s13’s? Cuzz it costs over 50 bucks to get my Dad’s Avalanche to half  that is why I NEED my own car now lol
My light comes on when it is about 1/8th of a tank below the E. This has been the same in all 3 of my s14s, and I believe that to be normal. You should be able to go another 50km after the light comes on. I have driven atleast 50km after the light has come on just to test it. but normally I will fill up before it gets to 1/8th tank.
There is sediments that will get sucked into your pump (hopefully blocked by the screen) easier when the tank is low.

I remember reading somewhere once that the Fuel Pump is cooled by the Fuel in the Tank so if your always driving around with only a 1/4 - 1/8th of a Tank then you could run the risk of over heating your Fuel Pump since its not exactly “submerged” in Fuel and being cooled
hahaill fill my tank and itll push the needle a good 1/16 of an inch past the top… then itll stick there till ive done around 150 km… then it drops to half a tank… then it sits there for a bit… then ill go till the needle drops past e… and still get another 125 km past that.
