how many of you are actually still into cars?

this idea came to me while reading the other thread, someone mentioned it

anyway how many of you are actually still in the car scene? maybe not “in” it but at least follow it somewhat and enjoy it?

personally i love cars, i’m in

I feel like it’s pretty obvious where I stand.

I did it hard, did it awesome.

With the exception of legitimate racing (which has never interested me), I’ve come to realize though that a lot of “car stuff” requires more money than talent. I’m more into things that require talent… or at least guts.

When I die, I don’t want to be remembered because I bought X,Y,Z… I want to be remembered for doing A,B,C…

Maybe this will change, but it’s how I feel now.

Most car “building” is throwing a pile of money at a car and takes very little talent. People fabricating stuff for cars will always be cool in my book, but hardly anyone does that. Swap kits, turbo kits, etc etc… it’s all bullshit and any jackass with money can do it.

I have been my entire life and I don’t see it changing anytime soon.

i get where you are coming from, you did do the car thing pretty hard for a while lol

i just enjoy cars, driving them…enjoying them…not sure why really, i just do

Cars suck, but I’ll always have an interest in them.

Bikes on the other hand, that’s never gonna change.

I am “into” cars, but in a much more general sense. I like reading about them (new tech, mods, swaps, etc…) and driving them.

I do like working on them, but as newman said, it requires more money than talent, and I am not into the outrageous costs. I have a few mods on my Mazda, but nothing special.

I CAN easily say that I will ALWAYS own at least one specialty/enthusiat/fun car. Whether it’s an old sports car, modded 90s car or a late model car with some special edition trim or optional higher hp engine. I definitely need that.

I am not all that into the meetup scene. A lot of the meetup scene is infested with 17-20 year olds that I don’t really think I identify with anymore. I now I’m not that old, but other than cars, I doubt I have much in common with them. If I go to higher end meetups, people are 10-20 years older than me, and I since I don’t know my porsche/ferrari lingo, and don’t own an expensive european car, I won’t have dick in common with them. So for now, I shy away from meetups.

I like this online community because it allows me to shoot the shit with likeminded people, and there are some people here that do enjoy talking about non-auto related stuff that I seem to also be into. I get to learn new things about cars, discuss and debate them, and I enjoy that.

my opinion has changed through time, when i was a little younger i thought having a nice or fast car was all life was about.

Now that im married i like cars in moderation, the wife and i enjoy going to shows, meets, etc as a way to get away now and then. I spend less and less on my cars each year, and even though my gvr4 is a total roach on the outside and it sits in the garage most of the time,

I really love pulling the car out and doing some pulls, and i still love the idea of roll racing someone i have never met before just looking at them and their car, and deciding can i beat them or not. Im in 4 life just to what extent i have no idea

Into driving them. Not into in building them.

I’d much rather spend $1000 on track time than $1000 making my car go faster.

I feel like I identify more with the RICERS than anyone I’d meet at a “high-end” car meet. RICERS have no money and are forced to be creative DIYers… High end cars are frequently no more than a display of wealth. Even if you drive the fuck out of it, it’s just a purchase that anyone in that position could make. I suppose that the actual CHOICE of vehicle represents something, but an action is worth infinitely more than a choice.

(This does not mean I like ricers, but my personality is more aligned with them. Though their execution and half-assery are usually absolutely awful)

Just picked up a new go fast car

Took 3 years off got a house and my money situation where I want it.

Seems like the amount of people who race both illegally and at the track on here has been quickly declining.

I frequent WNYFbody because all of the active users are into racing still

i wouldn’t consider working on them and building them a requirement at all

I dont even change my own oil, but i’m a car guy to the bone…so much i’ll probably be buying a classic F-car as soon as the honda is paid off and all squared away

I feel like paying off a Honda should never be a requirement to owning a classic Ferrari… as one repair may exceed an entire year’s worth of Honda payments…

this is true, luckily I know a good ferrari mechanic that will labor for beer…
and parts at dealer cost, so i’m not worried at all

and the only reason i’m waiting until then, is so i can keep the honda, and have a winter car as well. along with pay off some other bills along the way so the F-car is no worries

paying off the honda was just the easiest way to explain it

love driving aggressively and cars make this possible. I’m spending less of my discretionary income on cars than I did in my 20s, but I still love them just as much.

I would tend to agree with that. I was sort of using that as an extreme example, though.

lol this is very true.

I’m too mature for cars.

Some classic Ferrari’s are super ugly and have MAJOR pain in the ass motors to maintain and work on. They’re affordable for a reason.

.

It’s funny back when we had tons of people going to the track the time ranges were 12 sec -> 17sec and everyone had a great time.
