Into cars, yeah sure I suppose. Definitely not the same as I was though. Am I always gonna like cars, of course. Am I gonna spend every bit of my money though to have the coolest/fastest/best handling ca out there… Not a chance.
My mindset now is acquiring a car that’s gonnna be comfortable for me to daily drive, good on gas, and convenient for me to own. Still being “into” cars is gonna force to me to buy something thats kinda sporty yet still serves it’s purpose versus falling off the face of the earth and buying something boring and lame.
I have more important things like spending money on moving to Cali and starting a future out there versus spending all my money on the car scene like I once would have.

Mike I think you are a good example of a true enthusiast. Just because your current and upcoming life situations are not the best for projects or whatever you don’t act “defeated” by it and accept that someday it will be again. With a mindset like this you will always be able to enjoy cars. The other ways are people that in your situation would still build something or spend all of their money on something. Having this stress and financial strain from said car makes the person resent the car and the automotive hobby in general. I have seen many people get way too deep and then just have horrid feelings toward the hobby after. Second is the person that feels the need to justify not having a car at the time but not being into cars anymore. This is lame and this person was probably not all that into cars to begin with though.
QFT. Exact same situation I’m in. I still have my car (although not running); but right not it’s more appropriate to get the rest of life figured out than dump everything into a car. I know in a few years I’ll have the means, time, and drive to put it back together and enjoy it again, but right now I’m on the sidelines watching and that’s fine with me. The urge to go wrench in the garage and drive like an animal is still there strong as ever.
I am helping my girlfriends father put a 67 chevelle back together right now that he has owned since he was 19! I love people that can sideline projects and not loose the passion. I honestly do not think I could, I need everything done yesterday but am getting much better with that.
It’s not always easy… trust me. Especially this time of year with spring coming. I have to go put my Bird back together enough to move it into a storage place and clean it up… I’m going to be DYING doing it, especially once I wash/wax it and it’s shining in the sun…:tear:
But I know once I get dug out of where I’m at (I’m well on my way); I can build it into what I want and make it what I want; like your RX7 project. My Fiance is even like once we get settled in SLC and our finances are in order that I need to put the thing back together!
I love cars. My last racing adventure at road america finalized my place as a car enthusiast for me.
I am a driving enthusiast .
I hate working on cars.
This camaro project is the last of my big projects.
Slow cars are more fun.
I had a absolute blast in my SHO at the road course. The drive train is stock and is well maintained so I beat the snot out of it and it will take it. I kept looking at the high end cars out there thinking “I don’t want that” There was a modded RS6 absolutely flying out there as well as a supercharged G8 that was crazy fast. I just kept thinking of the cost of tires and brakes for them thinking that is what my entire 3 days of track time cost me to race my slow SHO. I love to drive this thing, and i’m glad its beat so if I stuff it into a wall it is not a big deal. Get another one for 300 bucks and keep going. I race the car at the limit of my driving skill. If I had bought a Z4m or Zo6 I would be scared of crashing it. The most fun I ever had at dunville was in my POS saturn. It is different for everyone but road course is how I get my kicks. Street racing does not do it for me anymore. My “fast” car killed the fun for me. I had more fun racing my stock SHO against justins stock VIC than I did going well into tripple digits in my turbo car.
I think I have said it before, I am a driving enthusiast not a car enthusiast. I do not have the time, patience or skill to work on cars but driving a good one gives me an incredible “high”.
Im into my own cars and driving them but I never cared for hanging out in parking lots and talking about cars or have any interest in 90% of the cars I see on the road or at shows.
Matt, you know my thought on why fucking build something when you can buy something that was designed by dudes in white lab coats who got alot further in physics. I find blasting down Boston Colden Rd hitting 58mph on a bicycle WAY more fun then being in a car.
Tell me about those Turbo Actions you love so much
I had a woman that I married that went psycho after we got married; it wasn’t devastating per-say, I got over it quick and realized I made a mistake… a very very costly mistake.
As for being engaged now, that’s another story I’m not getting into.
I think my last visit here was 6 months ago. My car is sold and I haven’t looked back. I had fun, and I’ll get a new toy sooner than later, but I don’t miss “the scene” one bit. And…time to sign off.
I don’t get this notion that you can be a car guy one moment and not a car guy the next. You either are or you aren’t. It’s like loving vagina. You don’t wake up loving cock one day just because the woman is being a pita.
Your personal/financial situation may change over time and that could prohibit you from enjoying this hobby to the full extent of your little ricer or dumbestic thug heart. But that doesn’t mean you aren’t into it. For me the only thing thats changed is the desire to dump large sums of money into a car… for now that is.
I love problem solving and increasing efficiency in anything I do. I find few things more rewarding. This ranges from how I unload a dishwasher to how I set up an engine calibration. Cars offer a plethora of problems to solve and systems that can be optimized. Getting to solve problems on and improve cars that haul ass just makes it better.
I also love driving cars. I love driving just for the sake of driving (roads with pleasant views are of course a plus).
On the other end of the spectrum I love driving in a performance setting for the rush and the speed. I also love driving on a race track because it’s another opportunity to improve my personal efficiency/ability and that of the car. I played sports all year round growing up and while I haven’t had time for that in a while, I do enjoy competition.
I love having a car that performs well so being into modding cars only makes sense.
Sure most of us have dumped a bunch of money on a car, then reigned things in for a while only to go back at it after taking a break. The same goes for time put into an automotive project. Even since I’ve had the shop I’ve taken years off without having a fun car of my own. That doesn’t change how I feel about cars.
The only thing that’s really changed for me over the years is I spend less time at parking lot meets and more time at the track. Even if I’m not racing that day I have more fun hanging out where there’s racing going on.
I enjoy working on/driving cars.
I don’t “build” cars to impress people or get on magazine covers, I do it because I enjoy it.
I enjoy working on other peoples cars. I’m not really into the silly function over form thing tho.
I’ve met some rad dudes due to this whole car nonsense and have had some awesome times.
I’ll continue going to meets as long as they are held and making fun of iank for ruining 4 hubs at once.
I’ll always be “into” cars.
