How much is your car worth...to you?

Well considering my car is still stock and I haven’t put anything into it other than an oil change, air filter and ALOT of gas…I’d say probably around $2k, just because it would be a good chunk towards another F-Bod. Realistically, I don’t know if I could get that much, but I am not sure what it is worth.

u guys are on crack… some of the numbers im seeing are crazy.

what i have in my car and what it would sell for is crazy.
id prolly go for 7500.

$11,000 would do it for me.

1 of 8 in the country.

I could probably get 16k easy, but I would not sell.

I honestly don’t know what my price would be. if someone put $20k on the table I’d probably do that, and just buy another one and do a euro m3 swap instead of an m20 stroker

I really want an e30 m3. I will probably buy one after I buy an e39 540i/6 as a dd. Bunch of people have offered me straight up trades on my car for an e30 m3. without even advertising it. Im sure i could therefore get an e36 m3 trade for it too, but I think I’d rather have an e30 m3.

either way, as much as I’d like an e30 m3, I can’t see myself trading it for one. That’s why I’d sell it for ~$20k. buy a nice one in germany for $5k, $1k shipping, spend $5k on a euro m3 s52 w/obdI conversion, $1k for someone to do the swap (I’m sick of doing swaps, maybe when I own a house with a garage. but I’m so f’ing sick of pulling motors). and $7k to convert it to U.S. spec legally. maybe when I study abroad, I’ll sell my touring first, and pick one up there. with a euro s52 in the trunk

Mine is extremely high for a few reasons

  1. How many 1964 Olds 442’s do you see? Not too many, and I like it that way.

  2. Bought it when I was 14, sorta holds a special place to me, my girlfriend knows that it comes before her (kidding)

  3. I have put too much work into it to see someone else destroy it.

A car similar to mine with less suspension/driveline work, and (as of the spring) less interior work just sold for $21k. I dont think what I’m looking for is out of line at all. Granted I just had a 911 owning jackass make a comment about my “slow $4k 944”.

I think a lot of this depends on people’s situations. Some of the numbers here are unquestionably high, but they are probably in a financial situation where they have no need for the amount of money the car is acually worth.

For instance, my Beetle is probably worth roughly 6-7K currently if you go by what similar TDI beetles have recently fetched on eBay. I wouldn’t sell mine for that little for a number of reasons. First off, I know what I have. Everything about the car mechanically is pretty much perfect. Without hesitation I would jump in it tommorrow and drive it to California and back. Also, it is really clean, rust free, and an extremely nice example of an early New Beetle. Normally they have a few things in the interior broken and lots of stains and whatnot. Mine is really nice.

The Audi on the other hand is a day by day thing. It always has lots of little issues, but it is also really clean and rust free. It also has loads of character. There really aren’t too many cars out there like it. On the days I want to sell it, I want to get $2000 for it. I think that number is really fair, especially considering what I have thrown at it. But I have had that car probably 65% apart and back together again combined on different occasions. There is a lot of sweat, blood, hours and frustration of mine in that car, more than any of the other 13 cars I have owned. I probably won’t ever sell it until i really have to.

right now with the bmw i have no emotional attacments. its just a car. i tried to get a lot out of it and i could have- but just sold it and broke even which is fine with me. im not sad to see it go by anymeans. it was cool, but time for what iv wanted. and in a few days hopfullly if all goes well- ill be sportin the new whip

Mine is unreasonably high because the car runs perfect, chassis is very clean and tight after countless hours of work. In order for me to get another old DSM to handle and drive like mine…It would take a little over that and then a LOT of hours of shitty work. I hate doing ball joints/Tie rods/bushings on buffalo cars.

On top of that, I just plain don’t want to sell my car so it would be completley pointless to even go though with selling it.

I’ve been seriously pondering the thought of selling the Conquest. I’ve been into these cars since 2003, and I’ve got soo much experience and parts stashed up for it. This is my 3rd Conquest, and it is the one I’ve put the most money into. As it stands, I have over $7000 into it, plus alot of time and sweat. I’d say another $3000 needs to go into it before I’m satasfied. I know I could never ever get that much for it though. It’s still a worthless 80’s sport hatch in the end. Depreciation and Market ruins the value. Therefore, to answer the question, I could not sell it. I’d be like every other Conquest/Starion owner, and part it out.

As for the Neon, I’d ask $2500. Only because its an amazingly solid Rust-Free car, equipped with the ’ “ACR” Competition Group’ option, and is only 1 of 98 built.

Starion, $500 takes it. God I hate that car.

id sell my conquestfor $5000 with a set of brand new 18s tires and rims.Maybe 4000 though.

well…sure, he didnt know anything about your car…but…hes right…the majority of 944s ARE slow…and DO sell for about 4k

Great question Skrapper. I agree with Amy though. I could not see anyone besides you owning your car. It is Skrapper.

In my own situation, I’d part with the tC for 16K. The Talon is tough. Still in too many pieces to gauge what I would ultimately sell it for. I turned down $8500 with tranny uninstalled though. Part of that has to do with me driving a total of 12 hours to buy it. Sentimental attachment holds strong for me, even in the short time I’ve had it.

20k for all my dsms and parts as that would be a nice dp on the evo9. Otherwise no sale.

$15,500. I’m really not emotionally attached to my WRX wagon. I like it alot, I just wouldn’t be heartbroken if I had to get something else.

It’s funny that you mention the car being apart as I recently heard a funny story related to that.

A freind of mine that is about 40 years old is going through a divorce. He has a cherry mint mid 70’s Monte Carlo. Before he even got to talk to the attorney, he took it all apart and scattered the peices throughout his garage. So when I asked why, he said it was because the car is worth nothing when it’s in peices and that won’t be acounted for as an asset.

Smart guy.

better solution…

stay single…=/

King Midas had gold.

A car you’ve put a ton a work into yourself is hard to estimate in value. I had basically replaced every part in the Fiero, and had a ton good memories autocrossing it, especially the season where Bret and I battled pretty much every race.

Unfortunately your personal history doesn’t add value to a car so you have to consider that when putting a price on it. When I sold the Fiero I got $3500 for it, about $500 more than I paid 4 years earlier. I probably put 2k in parts into since buying it but considering the severe life it had (autocrossing pretty much every other weekend for 4 years) I think the parts investment was reasonable. I still miss that car just because it was the car that introduced me to autocross and was such a blast and a challenge to drive fast.

The GTO on the other hand I have much less emotional attachment to. Partly because I haven’t had it that long, and partly because other than changing the oil and diff fluid I haven’t poured any blood and sweat into it like I did the Fiero. Nothing attaches you to a car like figuring out how to cram the trans back in on a Saturday night only to win your class at autocross the next day by a couple 10ths. I’m sure that will change once the warranty is up on the GTO though and I actually start turning wrenches on it.
