no offense but all i can think is … why in the hell would anyone keep giving a shop money for the swap if they were charging so damn much.
ive put h22’s in both my SI preludes and neither swap cost me more than 2k.
i got both engines for 900 bucks and spend somewhere around 700-900 on other parts (headers exhaust timing belt water pump etc…) then i did the labor myself so if i had paid for the swap to be done it would have been around 3k or less for each.
both engines were good, first one took 30k miles, then i sold the car. my current one i put almost 40k miles on it and its still goin strong. (although i wish stronger)
that sucks…
gearhead, dirty georg & I did my h22/eg working only on random weekends & did it in my drive way & tiny 1 car garage with only hand tools.
it was a job, but not rediculous…it was my first swap but gearhead was a good teacher & made it pretty easy.
9k…all i can say is wow.
Swapping an H22 into any honda should not take more than 3 days total, if that, if working say 8 hours a day. I did my first h22 swap into a civic in under a week of part time working at it long before there was much info out about the swap. I would think perhaps 2 weeks at any reasonable shop would be plenty of time, allowing for working around other customers vehicles, ordering of misc. overlooked parts/upgraded parts, etc.
As for swap pricing, I would expect to see a huge range on potential prices as those swaps span a lot of years and newer low mileage ones are obviously going to be worth more. I’ve always paid a bit more for the complete swaps I bought but was always very pleased with the service and products I got (in fact my first h22 swap is still running strong after a second transplant into a members car on this board I believe). Just the same, I’ve wrenched on “customers” cars who bought more bargain priced stuff and received lower quality parts or missing items and often times had odd problems later.
So who attempted the H22 swap in the first place?
was the first shop a shop in the North Hills by chance?
that totaly sucks, If i can recall correctly. I remember someone talking about a girl swaping an h22, in fact someone came over to my house to check out a h23vtec i had for sale. at this point in time i knew someone was way over there head but i couldent do anything about it because i had no clue who it was…

okay so I got burned…
this is the exact info…you wanna disagree ( u know who u are ) then i will upload receipts as proof. I had to beg u for em anyway…don’t forget
spent just over 6k on parts…swap ( 3300.00 no lsd), 5spd conversion, header, clutchmaster stage 2 clutch ( which at this point is not accounted for?? if its there or not ), also bought both Helm’s manuals prelude and 6th gen, all other parts to get car running.
labor: $2700.00 paid upfront…this was my friend at the time is a bind needed the money and promised the car in 2months no prob. ( and yes I now I am a dumbass for paying upfront, but I was convinced there would be no issues)
THEN after 8 months without a car my dad contacted him to see what it would take to get the car done and running and in my driveway for xmas…
he said " 1200.00 pays for the parts you needed and rest as labor "
tho again another 2 months passed sooooo I got the car towed FINALLY outta there.
Then to Strict fab it went…parts still not there sooo i bit the bullet and dished out 700.00 …got burned again …car sat for another 2 months with nothing done!
got the car at hybrid…thats the story!!
