How reliable are sr20's?

im debating on getting an sr20 240…but i need a reliable car and im not too
sure how reliable these are…i know it is a stock motor…but ive heard lots of things
from lots of people lol…ne ways what is the life expectency of an sr20 roughly
if i ran it on synthetic oil and never bagged it…would it last me a long while?

depends on how the previous owner took care of it.

Maintain it and keep the boost at reasonable levels and you should have no problems.

yea i will maintain it…and what should i run for boost to be on the safe side
the car im looking at now has aprox 90 thou on the sr…im just curious
that if these motors can hold up to go to 200 sum thou km’s

10 PSI at the most.

Fuck that shit. 1 bar with supporting mods (FMIC, fuel pump, full exhaust) FTW.

this is the one im looking at…

Anyway, back on topic!!
I don’t have any way of KNOWING what the engine is like long term, but it seems that just like any other turbo OEM engine, it will last along time if you take care of it. that being said it will still have it;s normal problems. turbo engines oftern seem to need gaskets: head/valve cover/exhuast these things just seem to go faster on turbo cars due to the extra heat and pressure i guess?
And the added power is a little harder on stuff like the clutch and tires, but that’s to be expected, and should be considered regular maintanence.
Stock, I would agree that you don’t want to exceed 10PSI for best reliability(based on what I have read) but modded, if you upgrade the essential components like intercooler, head gasket, rad, exhuast, intake, your engine can put out 25%-50% more power and still run at about the same temperature, with no significant extra wear.
and as you mentioned, regular oil changes with good oil and filter are a must. as well as leting it warm up in the cold weather to get that oil flowing.

dont want sumthing with a dent sorry lol and i also dont really like the coupe
back ends…and i cant afford that sil lol…but im gonna go check that other car out
and see how it is…anything i should be looking for?

QR25DE w/pre-cat FTW.

Im telling you Louis if you run it that had again its gonna blow. :?

Im telling you Louis if you run it that had again its gonna blow. :?[/quote]I ran like that every day all year.

k so no one really answerd my question…lol

^^^^^^^

I have heard of brand new motors lasting a week, up to 200,000 kms plus. It is exactly what rastaman and Deathby240 said. But its not going to last as long as a honda, it has enough power/torque to possibly break something

also depends how you drive if you bag any engine its not gonna last as long…

exactly what i said before…i wont be driving it hard, drifting or any racing.
im basically just using this car to get to and from work everyday and drive it around
maybe weekends…i dunno…i guess it really is gamble then hey lol

umm, if you maintain it it will last.

For the record 604 whp, 493 tq. on a stock block .

GO SR GO.

back from the dead

i have had my sr since last summer and have put 28xxx on my engine since, i was told it had 50xxx on it but how can u really know.
but other than little problems happenig i have had no major problems. all last summer i had my car running at 18 pounds on a gt25rs. so i think more than 10 pounds on a stock turbo will be fine, but the harder u run your engine the more likely it will blow up.

18 PSI… Where was i when this happened Jamie???
