Sr20det

Hey everyone,

I just bought myself a 180sx and i should have it in my hands with in a couple weeks. I just have a couple questions about the SR
Max boost on stock turbo?
Max boost on engine block?
How realiable is it?
Common problems found with the engine?

thats all for now
thanks

well i have my sr for over two years running and its reliable for me never had any problems (knock on wood) , aslong as u maintain it well u wont have problems.
and for boost ive been running 12 pounds and have had 1 turbo change it was the original turbo on the motor. and i think it blew becuz the motor sat for a few months because i scrapped the first car it was in. and for problems i never really had a big 1, the only problem i had was because i used the wrong maf when i put th emotor in the s14 my plugs blew but that was fixed. and other than that nothign really just make sure u do ur oil changes and what not on time.

on a t25 12 psi is pretty safe but ya anything over 14 psi is kinda leaning out ur motor…but ya ive never had a serious problem with my sr minor stuff here and there

thanks guys much appriciated, Its pretty much same rules as the Rb20

pretty much… follow the rule of thumb my man…

more boost means more air,
more air means more fuel

to up the boost(14psi is also the max for a t25 without IMMEDIADTE damage)
get a t-28, or larger
get bigger injectors and a real FMIC!!!
the stock 180sx has a sidemount intercooler that everyone and there girlfriend will tell you needs a FMIC above all else…

have fun with your 180 and remember, dont play in the snow;) and if you do, rust proof to hell!

i wouldn’t say immediate. i’ve ran over that a lot of times and it’s fine. i’m not going to say it will work fine for you.

hate on me, but i’ve ran no wastegate at the track when i was tired of being slow and it was fine.

i’ve never have anything serious so far. i get my oil change every 3K with castrol syntec 10w-30. sr’s are pretty damn reliable engine, as long as you take care of it. i used to have 13psi set up, but now i toned it down to 7psi. dont really need that much boost, plus i save alot more money on gas. 94 octane aint cheap.

thanks for the advice!
lucky for me my 180 is fitted with a nice fat trust fmic and all supporting upgrades.

as for playing in the snow i believe shes gonna spend the winter indoors in a nice heated garage!

supporting upgrades…? fatter rad and better fans? FMIC means less useful air over the rad.

sr heads are probably the only thing you really should watch out for. over revving and miss shifting lol. like everyone else said, as long as you maintain it then it will take care of you.

i beat on my car everyday alot, she never breaks down. i find if i baby it…something will happen, she is a slut for abuse.
