How reliable are the 4.0L Jeep Cherokees?

motors are stout, my friend’s gf has one and the thing has been nothing but good to her. typical problems, radio being sketchy, the rear hatch wont open, but drivetrain wise these cars are xtuffx

you can find some in 5spd, if you can by all means pick it up

ive always said if i ever bought a domestic car it would be a jeep. theyre awesome vehicles

Yes, they did make the Cherokee in a stick, I almost bought one several years ago. Wranglers also come in 5 and 6 spd flavor.

I picked up one cheap, has 134,000 its a 99 grand Cherokee. Had the motor rebuilt, had a little knock to it. The interior is nice, leather, moon roof, CD player, etc. I will be selling around fall next year, thats when you can get the most money for them. In the summer or spring they are a little cheaper.

DO NOT buy a 99 - 00

I was going to but seriously, more problems than the other years…

Im a moron, i had the 5.2

my buddy in high school had a 98 cherokee. it had alot of intake problems. i did one on a 91 in boces. and vowed never to do one again lol

Yup, but if you get a good deal and feel like doing the work yourself then its worth it.

i have the 4.0 in my Wrangler, and before getting it I did some research on it and it seems to be an extremely solid motor. I saw a Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 in it at the junkyard today that had 256,000 miles on it. Ii was smashed in the side, so my assumption would be it wasnt there because of old age.
