I’m gonna topcoat it. a good portion of it sticks through the bed…
oh, def topcoat it then. Good luck let me know if you have any questions. I can even come out and spray it if you need me too. Take it easy and good luck.
just an update to let you guys know I didn’t forget about this. I have been sandblastin away for a week. I have the POR 15 I ordered, but want to prep everything very well. Here’s a couple of misc. photos from today… enjoy.
tomorrow I should be about 90% done sandblasting (doing the entire frame up to the front) and then throughout the week I will find the spots I missed and start to mask off everything. Then the fun begins.
or so I hope :bigthumb: :shaggy:
Just saw this post… i overlooked it somehow. Anyways, I appreciate the offer but I’m broke as a joke.
But I do have a question that I couldn’t find the answer to in my documentation… after I spray the POR15 and go to topcoat it, will I need to primer it first? They sell a self etching primer that seems HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by them, but is it a gimmick? I can’t really spend another $75 - $100 on friggin primer. Then I still need to buy the paint itself too. Would a generic epoxy primer work?
mocked up one of my shocks tonight…
generic would work… a buddy of mine used JUSt the POR on bare metal(no preprimer stuff) and sanded and painted over it. Its been holding up for over a year now. Now the bondoed stuff on the other hand… thats a diff story lol.
Be carefull with POR it fish eyes like a mother fucker… you will probably have to do like 2-4 coats to be sure you got evertyhing. The stuff spreads on real thin also. It cures like a fucking rock tho.
I’m happy with it, espcially for my first time spraying any type of paint from a $30 Home Depot gun. I’m just happy to start seeing progress again. I was pretty sick of scraping, taping, and sandblasting. Plus, even with the respirator, I caught a nice buzz while I mixed it, etc. But enough talk, here is pics of the first coat.
keep up the good work.
Here is the final color of it. I love it. When the light hits it, it shines, but its still a nice deep grey color.
Some pics of my airtank after I got it cleared. Everything is ready to go back together. Also for my own enjoyment and basically a real life photoshop, I sprayed the left over to show how its gonna be… I want something a big darker for the body though.
I got my rear end re-assembled minus the air springs. I give it a :bigthumb: except around the differential bolts the paint fugged up. Practice makes perfect. The 2nd pic shows another whoopsy. I forgot my gas tank extended that far when I did up my shock mounts… I made them perfectly straight up and down and forgot to include my gas tank in the equation. UNI-SHOCK for the time being. I’m tryin to start a trend with that… The third pic shows where I relocated my charcoal canister. It also serves as documentation for the next time I rip it apart I will know how it goes back together. It runs, so it works! Sounds decent with no muffler
