Just wondering for future gun purchases, how do I check if a gun is stolen or been involved in a crime? I bought one a while back and sold it to Damir and he later told me it was involved in some sort of crime or some shit so I had to give him his money back… Want to avoid this happening again.
I think this site still works, if it doesn’t your local Sheriff should be able to run a search by calling them.
Call cops with serial num I would imagine ,or if those r gone I would say leave it alone lol
is this site reliable, ive seen sites like this before but cant imagine theyd have a record of every single stolen gun in the world.
would I be totally fucked if I bought a gun, was transporting it or w/e got pulled over and the cop ran the serial and saw it was stolen? Or would they just take it.
With a rifle or shotgun, it pretty much can not be proven if it was used in a crime unless it was stolen from evidence, or was reported stolen.
With pistols sold in NYS before 4/1/12, they’d have to have collected shell casings from the scene of a crime and connect the dots through CoBIS, which no longer exists and never solved a single crime in NYS.
if it’s a pistol and it’s not on your permit you’re fucked, and you will go to jail.
How many long guns are used in crimes? i wouldn’t think that many
Call the ATF.
They would know but then you’ll have a shiticane on your hands when the ATF has a hissy fit you’re selling guns. Was it a rifle or handgun you sold that was used in a crime? What type of crime was it?
im allowed to sell guns that ive bought, used for a while and then sold?
and idk damirs friend is a peace keeper or some shit and he said something wasnt right with it, idk exactly what the issue was but I just returned his money and that was that.
not gonna go through all the trouble to call the ATF lol, I just wanna know how most people say on wantad buy guns or if they just take the sellers word for it not being hot.

you need to have a form 4473 from atf if you buy a new gun. but if its used you should have them fill out something similar. at the least you want a bill of sale and write in the bill of sale that the owner knows that this gun isnt stolen or used in any crimes. that should protect you
if you want to avoid the atf dont buy and sell guns. thats what they do. yes you have the right to but… they have all this extra rules and regulations you have to follow if you want to be perfect.
also if your store buys and sells guns then some guy walks in with a gun you will not know his intentions until he says what they are. he will either say i want to sell/pawn this or he will say give me all your money. so if you dont trade guns you will avoid this mistake
also the serial # has more info than you would think. if it has been transported from state to state without a licenced ffl saying it was shipped legally it was involved in a crime. so a # could show if it was in a crime
would I be totally fucked if I bought a gun, was transporting it or w/e got pulled over and the cop ran the serial and saw it was stolen? Or would they just take it.[/QUOTE]
for the most part if a cop sees you have a stolen gun or one used in a crime he will not just take it away. he will take you too. i mean you have the stolen gun in your possession. thats like a crak head saying the stolen gun isnt his but its in his pocket. some laws say you should check before you buy it because if you buy it your part of the crime.
but if you own a pawn shop and you have a good story you should be fine. you might loose your investment too.
i avoid this by only buying guns from people i know or brand new. hard to make money that way tho.
As long as you bought the firearm in your name, and didn’t use anything in the business to buy it, you should be fine. Typically, buying and immediately selling can get you looked at by the ATF if you do it frequently and someone fucks up with that gun when asked where the got it from. If they say they got it from some cash4gold place, then you’ll be fucked. If they say they bought it from love4boost, you should be fine.
As I said, there’s no REAL way to find out if a rifle/shotgun was used in a crime unless they have the firearm in their possession, as well as shell casings from the scene of the crime. It’s not like a pistol where that data was all on file, so if they find shell casings at a scene, they simple go through the CoBIS database and see it belongs to this serial number, then they go after the person whose permit that pistol is listed under.
In my opinion there should be a database of serial numbers on the ATFs website so someone can instantly check if a gun is reported stolen or not. I’m sure there is a good reason why there isn’t or maybe there is and I don’t know.
If I was love4boost I wouldn’t even deal in firearms of any type unless I had proper ATF registration etc. There’s too many loopholes and gray areas and someone always wants to point fingers when something happens.
i dont buy firearms through my business, i buy them all personal for personal use and NEVER sell them in the store… All of my bill of sales say sold to My name
Should be good to go then. Honestly, I’d also try not to do any transactions concerning guns at the store, just meet them elsewhere if they come in. The last thing you want is your business associated in any way at all with buying/selling firearms if you don’t have an FFL. ATF fucks people.
My step brother is an ATF agent, ill have to ask him some shit lol
yes ask him he would know alot more on this topic.
i thought you were asking about your business first. but if its personal you are fine. just dont get carried away and buy 1,000 guns for cheap use them for a lil bit then sell them for a profit. i am sure they have something that limits you on selling guns all the time.
