How to program a new key fob?

I need to buy a new key fob for our 2005 Grand Prix. I don’t have the manual with me - can I program it myself or do I need a scan tool?

in a vw you put it in the ignition and get out of the car and use another key in the door and it programs… probably not that easy in GM world.

i know when i had my new key fob with the camaro, it was programmed without any tools. it was just a procedure, i think i may have the print out from the dealer.

I’ve seen the procedure where you pull the fuse, etc, but thought it might be different for a different car & year. But since Pewter has the tool, I’m good. Thanks anyway tough.

But the last time I read instructions, eurodad laughed at me.

It just says if you need a new one go to the dealer. Doesn’t say what to do.

you need a tech 2 to program it and if you bought a new fob make sure the numbers match the old one. Also you need both remotes present when you reprogram them. if you didnt get it done yet hit me up in the next couple of days and I can hook you up. but i quit that job on the 23rd.
