I have a 2003 Ford Explorer. I have two keys but only one of them is programmed. To program it, both keys need to be done. Ford wants $50.00 bucks to do it. I woulnd’t mind if it took an hour to do not 5 minutes. Does anyone have a hookup?
i might be able to help…i think i know someone that has a ford dealership…shoot me a pm
start the vehicle with the 1st PROGRAMMED key, then within 5 seconds start the vehicle with the 2nd UNPROGRAMMED key. New key should be programmed at that point. simple stuff
i believe that that only works after u have two keys programmed and pats key takes a good 20 mins with ids which is fords computer because u have to gain access into the securtiy system… not sure tho havent done a key at work in a long time
Well its worth a try, but im pretty sure its what i had to do for my dads 02 ranger, and it worked
I was told that if I put the un-programmed key in the ignition it freezes the truck up for 20 minutes. I guess it has to be programmed with a hand held programmer at Ford.
What AKA suggested is what I had to do with the Tahoe when I had a key made
I believe that is only with gm keys, or at least gm keys using the passkey 3 security system
for Ford keys (Later 1998-newer Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)
If you want to add a key…
You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed
So yeah, back to looking for a hookup.
not a ford dealer.
hookup at basil on walden?:gotme:
i work for Towne jesse, let me ask a tech real quick
sorry no such luck, techs wont do it under the table… They said a minimum of 20-25min up to 40-45, ECU system usually crashes once or twice while there doing it… we charge $45 + tax
