HVCC > * ?

Don’t get your panties in a bunch. I didn’t know your personal resume.

I debated taking the day off to drive around cones but I decided against it.

says the guy that has two consecutive posts ;D

My schools in education quality:

UMD>SUNY Alb>HVCC

$$$$>$$$>$$

Big surprise eh? HVCC is a good value for the money but its most definitely not a “great school.”

agreed

says the guy that went to HVCC?

:lol

Agreed.

Every once in a great while I have to agree with you. This is one of those times.

It isn’t that all the people who go to HVCC/SUNY don’t have the intelligence to go to more professional or higher up schools, it is usually based on income level and politics in some cases. I will tell you right now that kids parents who “donate” to a specific school have a much higher probability of being accepted.

And like you said it is also based on your career path and if the school you go to makes a difference.

Personally, I think the education system is fucked, and this is just one reason. We should all have equal access to qualified education, not just the people who make more money or know more people.

I think a lot of people don’t realize that grants/free money make it possible to attend a much more expensive school than expected.

hvcc uses a lot of techers from other schools to teach there classes

such as
-rpi
-siena
-union
-ualbany
-clarkson
-rit
-sage

etc…etc…etc

i know most of my teachers from the civil classes were rpi insructors and one was an rit instructor

my math teachers for the 2 semesters i took math were both in the siena buisness program

the education and facility at HVCC is actually very good… to say that they are not “up to par” with other schools that cost 10x more is an untrue statement

your parents income has little to no effect on schools these days. Financial aid is easily available and schools are often pretty generous. I don’t come from a rich family at all and I wasn’t a stand-out student either and it only cost my parents 4.5K a year to go to RPI. Anyone that says they aren’t going to a specific school cause of the cost is just using it as an excuse.

Have you been to any other schools to compare?

“a lot”, absolutely not. A few, sure. You think the curriculum and workload is exactly the same between RPI and HVCC? c’mon dude. No one is saying its a bad school. You get a great education for the amount you pay, but it is no where close to the level of say an RPI, Cornell, or RIT.

My CS head taught/went to MIT. He also did some work for SUNY Oneonta. He had to change how he taught over there. I doubt that is the norm though.

My sister could not get financial aid from suny albany b/c my parents make too much

i went to HVCC and paid for myself.

Says the guy whos parents paid your way.

My parents could have paid my way to but I decided I didn’t want that. I work(ed) my ass off to pay for my school and financial aid is def. not easy to get. It only pays about half my tuition. And I think this is the case for most people…

That’s incorrect. Stafford loan is always available even to those who’s EFC exceeds the cost of the school.

There is a difference between federal loans and federal/state aid. That being paying it back or not.

uhhh… most parents pay for college. I dunno what point you are trying to make.

It is easy to get especially if you applying as in independent, sorry bud.

it depends on the course

i agree tho it’s not a “great” school by anymeans but i contribute that to the type of student that normally goes there

my civil courses were actually very hard and my work load was pretty massive between the cad/surveying/ and other odds and ends which needed to be done for classes daily… our teachers were not going to “let us off” b/c we were at hvcc and not rpi

now my math class tho was a whole other story, the teacher was awesome to talk to one on one and a great teacher to deal with in classes but i found myself falling alseep cause he had to “dumb down” his classes and explinations just for the “slow people” to understand

it’s really just a matter of what your taking… if your going into a specific feild (civil, bio, health, w/e) then the course load is actually pretty big, but if your going in for the sake of getting an associates then yea it’s slacker central

my 2 years at hvcc cost 3k… living in renn. county gave me a 50% alone
