HVCC > * ?

thats what im saying, a C average somewhere else probably took twice the work to get an A at HVCC

And will get you a better job.

catey doesn’t even bother going to some of her classes b/c she falls asleep… but she’s pushing another 4.0 gpa again this semester just b/c ualbany is such a downgrade from northeastern

and as for hvcc… ok it sucks… you guys win… i graduated and am working in the feild that i went to school for… thats really all i wanted out of it… and i got it

IDK bout the rest of them, but I never said it sucks. Its a great school for what it costs. You can go to school for almost nothing and still be able to get a good job, or get into a better school than you could have right out of high school. What I’m saying is that it does not compare to a schools like RPI, RIT, Canisius, etc. I don’t pay 35k a year to get the same education you got for 3k a year.

no one said it sucks… :stfu :mwahaha

;D

As recently as a couple years ago…HVCC was regarded as the #1 two year institution (aka community college) in the country. Yes, COUNTRY. The U S of A.

Seeing as they are making that campus/college nice and building it up, and I don’t seem to be hearing bad things about it…I am sure they are still a top school.

We, as citizens of the tri-county area, are very lucky to be in this area. Our schools are good, our general IT/Medical job markets are in good shape (we’ve been dubbed Tech Valley - east cost version of a small Silicon Valley of sorts).

Albany, NY is a great place to live generally speaking.

Do I regret spending $6k to learn what I already knew? Absolutely. I had my IT job before I even finished my 1st year. Did the college suck? No way.

Good school.

ok… but no one is comparing hvcc to other community colleges. It’s being compared to big name private 4-year schools like siena, rpi, rit, clarkson, cornell, etc…

That doesn’t mean it’s “great” unless you are comparing it to Schenectady CC. The HVCC crowd are over inflating the education and comparing it to other top tier colleges.

A top CC.

A top CC has to mean something. The only difference between HVCC and a lower tier 4yr school (I don’t consider Siena all that amazing) is that it doesn’t offer dorms (required of a 4yr school) and bachelor programs. But the actual quality of education is not bad. Classes are smaller and not over packed like a lot of the bigger universities.

HVCC is the PERFECT stepping stone to a 4yr school. The amount of articulation agreements HVCC has with other school is great.

Also…I was stating it’s a good school because Shawn insinuated it wasn’t by asking the OP if he was serious when he said he thinks it’s a good technical school. HVCC is a good school…that is the bottom line. I wasn’t comparing it a 4yr institution.

i dont think you can compare a community college to a 4 yr school no matter what, your obviously getting something more out of a 4yr program than a community college. Usually a 4 yr school also has more money than a CC which can result in better teachers, better programs and way more to offer. I never said it sucked but i would not compare a CC to a 4 yr, no matter how good the CC is.

This is a dead horse. While, I 100% think that some HVCC and other CC have gift courses, I am sure the overall is exception for a CC. Again, the point is not to compare it to a tiered 4 year school like other HVCC fanbois have. People transfer from CC to 4-years not the other way around.

That’s fair and I agree.

Re-read the 1st post in the thread. The word “great” was used and HVCC is is not a great technical school. Perhaps, it is when compared to CC but you need to make that distinction.

MIT is great. HVCC is not.

GermanPSI can attest. He brought his girlfriends statistics notebook who goes to Ualbany, into his statistics class to show the teacher. He looked at it and laughed. At HV, they covered so much more material then ualb.

UAlbany is a state school which again, on average, is not a 4 year private school which are generally much harder.

But, we can all find courses/majors/discipline at every school/university that is easier/{insert whatever} than the other school. It’s about comparing as a whole or at least some sort of average.

Ironically, I am responding to a post regarding stats. :lol

Jesus Christ, I didn’t think this would get split to a new thread. Anyway, I went to HVCC for electronics, loved it. But yet again electronics is my hobby. I’ve had friends that went to other schools for electronics and they learned the same things I did.

HVCC is a great school… to get your education started (should of stated that before).

I don’t have time to read through all the posts here, but is looks like you guys are comparing a community college to 4 year school, can’t really do that.

True. Agreed that HVCC is a great stepping stone. That is all. Most kids there are complete idiots. On that note, I’m off to my Juvenile Delinquency Final :banana

My girlfriend goes to UAlbany, does he know there are around 6 different statistic courses, that all cover different information? UAlbany doesnt just generalize their statistic courses they try to focus in on your major and make a class designed just for that. The courses could of been completely different.

I totally missed that. Good point.

i didnt really think of it as well, i took a stats class at my school, it was geared for sociology, they also offer a psychology stats and a general stats class.

See, as I said early that HVCC is a good school for the money and other people agreed .Especially if they are in the Biology or Medical fields they can save a lot with the labs. It doesn’t compare to a 4 year yes,Common sense . But it holds its own in the state college ranking.

Yea, my stats courses were crazy. And they should have been, considering the pre-req was Calc 4.

You can’t compare one stats course to another unless they are indeed the same course (teaching the same/similar material).
