only getting 13.1 average mpg and alrteady when through a tank of gas. Im going to order the leveling kit, drop in K&N and prolly get cat back. Love the truck but the mileage blows. Anyone else have one, any problems, things to look out for?
Also looking for a good tanneau cover and tuner. Id love to average like 16/17 for the life of the truck. Might as well spend the money on supporting mods now and rep the benefits for a few years.
I just bought an '11 z71 ext with the 6 speed. I got about 13.8 for my first tank with the odometer starting at 18 miles, nearly 100% non-highway driving. A few guys at work have the same truck as me and claim to get high 14’s to low 15’s.
I’ve only been driving mine for 2 weeks, but I absolutly love it so far. Soooo much better than the last gen.
Does it have the cyl deactivation to save fuel? If it does, id caution you on the cat back. Ive heard that it sounds like a dying jet ski while decelerating. My 06 5.3 extended cab used to get me 14 or 15 around town with the exhaust cut off after the cat and synthetic oil and a k&n drop in.
Ive never heard a truck with one, just heard of the possibility lol. I used to run either valvoline or castrol synthetic. I got a sick deal on them at advance a few yers ago (they were bogo) so i bought like 300 bucks worth. I think i was running 10w30 and a acdelco filter. One time, going to syracuse with a tail wind i got like 23 mpg at 69 mph.
You need to drive it with the V8 mode/ V4 mode display on at all times. You can’t feel the truck back down into V4 mode. There are times on the thruway when I will be going 65mph in V8 mode and it’s displaying 18-19mpg. I simply ease up a little bit and it drops to V4 mode and goes to 24-25mpg, and still has enough power to keep the truck going at that speed. It has a sweet spot around 70-71. It will pull 20mpg even in V8 mode at that speed, and when you ease up it goes to V4 and 27mpg. Do that for 10 or 15 miles and your average will go way up. My total mpg from when I purchased the truck until July 10th was 17.7mpg. I reset it on the 10th and right now it’s 19.9 total.
alot of that has to be cause u and 2 wheel. 4x4 will not get the same mileage. And I’m not going to be starring that the stupid gauge.
Towing my car to and from the track the average mpg was 12.9. So driving around the whole week and towing my car i lost a tenth of a mile. lol something is messed up here
Donkeyballs dropped off his superchips tuner and I put the gas mileage tune on it and filled the tank. Ill let u guys know how it works. I think one week / 300 miles of driving is enough to see some type of change right?
I got the truck and it was at 11.2 one week went to 13.1. Now at 12.9 from towing on friday.
driving into work today still at 12.9
