So as some of you have seen, I decided to sell my Acura TL as it was getting boring for me. Since I bought my house, I have had the sudden urge to have a truck to haul lumber for my many projects. I also own a boat and a snowmobile and soon to be ATV. I own a janitorial business and I turned my van over to my father to use for running equipment and supplies, it was about time to pull the trigger.
I have a connection through a dealership to get any vehicle at wholesale from anywhere in the country. I did some shopping and stumbled on this truck down in Pittsburgh.
It’s a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 LT. I was pretty specific in what I wanted, but also needed to stay within my budget. It was at a Toyota dealership, so it was obviously a trade in. I called on this one and did some negotiating. These guys didn’t really seem to know what they had and were really easy to knock down on price. It worried me, but I proceeded anyways.
I specificly want this truck because it has the 5.3L with active fuel management and 3.73 gears for towing my boat and trailers. It has 92k, but you can tell it was taken care of very well.
Fast forward to yesterday, I hopped on a Greyhound out of Buffalo for $33 to Pittsburgh. Our transfer in Erie put me on a bus with no heat and the shitter was backing up. I just put my headphones on, buried my head in my jacket and hoped that the truck was worth the trip.
Got to bus station and was told by the GM of the dealership to keep an eye out for a guy named Rico…short, curly black hair, from Venezuela. I walked up to a few guys that I thought looked like a Rico, but no luck. I then walked outside to see someone pull up in a sporty Toyota car. Not even sure what car it was, but sure enough, it was Rico.
He sped off weaving in and out of traffic, proceeding to tell me he was fresh off the boat from Venezuela and was here on a scholarship to play baseball for a college. Maybe I’ll see him on TV someday, but it will probably be for his driving, not baseball.
So we arrive to the dealership, I walk in, check out the truck and all looks good, no surprises, (very weird!) give them a check and I’m on my way. I drove it back, stopping to grab Primanti brothers for the first time with a buddy of mine from the Army.
The truck rode like a dream all the way back to Buffalo. Averaged 13.5 mpg, which isn’t too bad for a V8 doing 80/85 down the Thruway. It will be going through the shop tomorrow to get PDI’d, but all appears well at this point.
This summer I will probably pick up a small daily, but for now, this is my daily rig. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!
(Don’t mind Rico Suave, he was just checking his FB while I went through the truck. I assume the GM gave the sale to him as he seemed pretty laid back and didn’t care about selling it to me)
