Okay… It’s definitely related to the air in, or air out, the car feels weak and there’s a pop when I rev it really hard. Manifold? Header? Waaah… help???
timing?
Uhmm … a lot more information would help.
Car/motor/what you did to it/where it’s popping etc etc etc[/u]
Popping at front, 93 Hatch KA24DE. It’s not repeated popping, it’s a pop.
You could have skipped a timing tooth on your intake
cam and are backfireing through your Intake Filter.
yup …
popping through the airbox can be a sign of too much advance …
Throw a timing gun on it and just see where it’s at.
How does the DE control advance?
Is the car getting hotter on the temp gauge than usual?
The only usual I have to compare it to is my Celica But it doesn’t seem to be running very hot…
The prev owner told me something about rust on the exhaust and maybe the headers, manifold etc, so I suspected that. How much can a timing gun be had for? And can it be had from CT where I can use it once and return it? 8)
they’re only about $90 … Princess Auto sometimes has them cheaper.
Cat could be plugged too
Rusty exhaust and manifold won’t make you pop through your airbox.
Basically your mixture is igniting while the intake valve is open.
Could be valvetrain related too.
Okay, I tried it again to hear it, and the pop occurs AFTER the car revs high. It’ll rev high normally, but it does sound like there’s a hole in my exhaust, and then there will be a pop when I let off the throttle. Infact, now that I think about it, it sounds almost exactly like when the muffler on my celica fell off… (oh i mean fell off, thunk, fall to ground, not be on the car anymore :D)
