i would go with the salvage title as long as you go look it over really close and make sure its ok. that things clean as hell. plus i mean its an e30. salvage title or not its not like it will depreciate much more.

those aren’t very fast, the e is the economy motor. 4500 rpm redline, ~170 lb ft of torque but only 121hp. Think civic but heavier.
if it doesn’t have any rust, for $500 it’s straight. you can buy an m50 for $500, and spend another $500 on euro bumpers and be under your limit.
Personally I wouldn’t buy an e30 before 1988, because I hate metal bumpers. I also wouldn’t buy a 325e, they’re slow as fawk.
buy any rust free chassis and put an m50 in it. Late model chassis with good paint & interior but bad motors pop up for $500-1000 all the time. m50 has hydraulic lifters, 24v, and a timing chain instead of a timing belt (belts pop on m20’s every 60k like clockwork).
and penfold, I am perfectly content with my current debt situation. despite the 2k ill be debt free by June except student loans. Therefore I have some play money.
and and, i doubt that e30 in rochester is clean, esp for $500. I would rather pay 1k+ for a clean whole shell with a slow motor than $500 for a rotted one. I really dont want to have to do any rust repair. I also do not have a garage to do any big repairs on this thing so it needs to be decent.
