Go to AutoDream in Calgary they have much more experience…and great prices
$1000 for install! they r the first shop that i knoe of that have 2 rb25det motor swaps that run great…there sr swaps run excellent ask for Win

They are at installing them, but thats all, if you had a problem, they wouldn’t have a clue what to do. You get what you pay for. $1000 explains it all. There’s a reason why half of their motors blow up. A few of their customers brought their cars to Neil to have them fixed, cause they had a their motors blow up and AutoDreams didn’t have a clue how to fix it, they’re remedy was for the customer to buy another engine. From my understanding they are not mechanics, this is a stereo and alarm shop who decided to get into the “SR scene” and install motors.

But hey, if you can’t pay to play, go to AutoDream.

P.s. I’m just telling it as I hear it.

well ive seen it and went there!..where is Al’s auto’s rb25det in an S13???..
no offence Aaron but how does your car run,and everones elses from Al’s…enough said!

both places can get the job done …but both places get shitty motors from the same place …NO NAMES MENTIONED…first source a good engine and then start asking the question of who will put it in and by then you might have learned enough to try putting it in yourself like a few members on this board and have good results as well …

^^^ i agree with typhoon…put the damn thing in yourself, its an easy swap, seeing is that its suppose to be there in the first place…stop being lazy and learn something as well…it will save you money in the end…time however is the only reason ppl go with installs…but winters here so…

My installation came out great, my motor on the other hand came in shitty. Just like Typhoon said, it’s a matter of the supplier, and my motor came from my own supplier not Neil’s.

You don’t need an RB25 powered S13 to say you’re good. Who cares, anyone can jump on the internet and read up how to install one and what you need to do it. If Neil hasn’t had a customer who wants one in a car, why would they build one? Just to show off?

Which people came out unhappy with the actual installation of the motor, not the motor itself?

For example, the first thing Neil did when my motor got to him, which would be the first motor installed by a shop in the city, was to pull off the oil pan and hammer it out cause it was dented from shipping. He did the correct thing, right? Ok, well, just last summer, after a few dozen SR’s installed at AutoDreams, a customer comes to Neil to see why his motors keep blowing up, it’s his third one that AutoDreams sold to him, because they told him to just buy a new one cause the old ones blew, no warrenty, NOTHING. So the dude got suckered in by AutoDreams to buy new motors. First one, BAM, then another motor, and BAM. They scratch their heads wondering why the third one blew up too… Off to Neil’s it went. First thing Neil saw, the oil pan was dented in right up against the Oil Pick-up, pounded it out, fixed the motor and Whola… It took AutoDreams how many motors and years of installation and they couldn’t figure that shit out??? Ummmm, yeah.

As far as installing yourself, yeah, giv’er, if you got the tools and what not, why not.

My car runs great, but idled off. And we did figure it out long ago, I just never took the time to fix the thing, it was the Idle control valve (or whatever it’s called) and the thottle body sticking. Fuck bone stock right out of their shop it ran a 13.7, pretty damn good. Apparently nothing wrong with the motor. AutoDreams T3 turbo’d, standalone engine management etc etc S14 runs high 13’s???

They claim their the “drift” connection. oh yeah, look at those Drift cars they are building, and those race cars, holy. (As you compare the RB’d S13’s to Neil not building one.) Cause as far as I know, Neil has build dozens of race cars over the years, and more to come.

Mark, you have no experience with Neil and his shop, why the bashing? (I guess the same can be said for me and AutoDreams.) Cause he over priced you for something and you found it cheaper on the internet?

Sure, Neil’s pricing may be higher than AutoDreams, but you know the business he conducts is legit and his knowledge about cars and what he does is top notch.

Then again, this all comes from what I’ve heard from people, and reliable sources, not neccessarily my own experiences.

Thank-you Aaron for your support.

Just for the record i would like to clear up a few issues.

First, I believe that the majority of my customers like Aaron, are the greatest attribute to my shop. Not because they are willing to support me in these situations, some of them are active on these forums and choose not to get involved (nore would i expect them to), but because they all demonstrate that our main goal is to build relationships with our customers. We have never left a customer high and dry because we were too lazy to figure our there problems. Aaron was not a friend of mine untill we worked on his car. He did not get any deals or perks. But because of our similar interests and enthusiasm for auto sports we have become friends. I hope that in the future we will attract more customers with his attitude.

Second, why is there all this hate on our shop from people like mark? It’s funny that it never seems to be MY CUSTOMERS complaining because I try to ensure them from the beginning that if there are problems or concerns we will help address them. Some bugs take time to work out, most of my customer have been more then patient when these situations arise and we truly respect that. I think people like Mark do not understand this because simply they lack experience in doing this kind of work and do not know of the multitude of problems that can arise in specific situations.

Third, we have never professed to be the “cheapest”. We will never profess to be the “cheapest”. We offer competitive pricing for the service we offer and hope that our overall experience in areas of service, personability, racing, fabrication, engine management tuning, suspension set-up, and simply our enthusiasm for the sport will attract customers. I never have, nor will I want to do work for people looking for the cheapest shop in town. We pride ourselves on service and quality. I wish people who have issues with our shop would kindly address them with me directly. I always welcome construtive feedback as i feel it helps me run a more effective business.

If you are looking for cheap work or ebay prices, ask mark he seems to know best in that category.

Forth, we do not discourage the people doing swaps themselves. In fact we are willing to support and help people with parts or partial labor. But we have also spent time and money acquiring our knowledge so advice and instruction is rarely free.

Mark, you have seen my cars run. 13.7 and 13.6 stock clutches and street tires. what does your run?

Typhoon, I was under the impression that auto dreams and myself generally used different suppliers. I know there has, however, been crossover. If you have a better source for me i’d appreciate the heads-up. I rarely have had problems from my primary supplier.

I have no desire to build a rb powered street car for ourselves but would love to do one for a customer when some one is willing to put up the money as i have a line on a good one right now sitting in japan. Most performance shops attempt to do interesting things to attract business. WE are first and formost racers and are currently building a turbocharged GTS circuit track car to compete where it counts. Our race cars are built to a very high criteria and run against some of the fastest circuit cars from around Canada and the States so we are not willing yet to disclose what we are building but i’m sure the assumptions will be correct. This takes much more time and effort then a street car swap. In case people were wondering why i do not have a sr powered street car, that is why, and hopefully by next summer you will see our finished product.

I think that this thread is getting way off topic, but I felt that as a sponsor of this club it is important to address attacks against us. Especially when we are one of the shops working very hard to see this industry and the import racing scene grow.

Again, all club members input is valuable to me and my staff. I would appreciate it conveyed in a professional manner as we try and treat our customers in this manner.

Till next time - Neil.

At the risk of getting into a pissing match with someone that has no basis for his argument, I want to point out that I’m a customer of Neil’s, and very happy with how my car runs. Neil and Cory have always provided service over and above what I paid them for, and have always attended to any issues I had immediately.

Neil and Cory both came out to SCC with a truck loaded full of ice packs, tools and good advice, SOLELY to help out his customers. The truck had no decals, and Neil nor Cory had anything to do with the show except being there to support his work and customers. I’d love to see more shops in the city with that kind of dedication, but sadly, it’s hard to find.

It would be nice to see fewer generalizations and more personal experience from these stupid debates (not rumors and hearsay), but I guess some kids just like drama.

Just like double-down, my experience with Al’s was excellent. My car has run extremely well since the swap and I have not had any problems. The help that was given to me was exceptional and I couldn’t have asked for more. When we couldn’t find a good TT motor for me they went out of their way to put together several different options for me.Due to my experience I would not hesitate to go back to Neil and Cory for more mod’s to any of my vehicles.

I feel that you do not have to address these attacks!! Truly they are uncalled for. As a customer of Al’s Auto, I do not have one complaint. When I needed help with something, Neil and Cory have both been there for me!!

But back to topic, and sorry about all of that. The engine itself would cost in the range of $3000, and a front motor cut will be in the range of $4000 or so. Not too sure.

But now you also have arguements on who to go to.

Best of luck in your plans.

Aaron

and this has been great …

very entertaining…
