The Eurolite brand like you said uses Phillips Balasts which have not been shown to be a great quality peice. If you want high quality and reliable HID you want to go with a company such as MeccaTune of any that use Hella for their balasts. I am not saying that Phillips is garbage but if you use Hella you will have a better time making them work for your car. Phillips balasts work well with the car they were ment to be in. Also if the ignitors are external you don’t want that, sure sign of low quality. Anyways I am sure Bing if you want you can find a company that dose their setup with Hella balasts for a similar price.
phillips are the best cuz theyre oem spec, and you do want the ignitor to be seperate from the ballast. The nicer kits all have external ignitors because they are easier to replace/maintain.
I have a prolumen kit that i got through http://www.umnitza.com/ for 270usd shipped to my door. I found them through a maxima forum where there are multiple GBs for HIDs going on. Just haggled with each of the sellers till i got the best price. honda forums have tons of Gbs like this going on as well. m,ost their prices are pretty good and below your estimated 450-500 price. multiple brands and options are available. generic korean kits one would typically find at autobacs would go for 250usd ish. if you wanna upgrade to hella ballasts or better bulbs then u just pay the difference.
all the kit ive looked in to were relatively similiar in quality. reading about ppl who already have them and what not… there usually arent too many complaints other than the… i have glare etc cuz im using fluted lenses bs.
If you have an s14 zenki then u dont need a dual beam kit because the Highs and Lows are seperate.
there are no issues as to whether or not they will “work with your car” because these kits are all universal plug and play. the only time where you would have to consider problems regarding whether or not it will “work with your car” is if you were to do a retrofit in which case you would be sourcing oem spec hid sytems i.e. 3 series, s2k… which are usually all phillips.
the prolumen kit that i went with was pretty high quality imo. installation was simple and all the components and wires were weather proofed and nicely insulated. when i was placing my order ove the phone the guy was givin me this bs sales pitch about how they were using them in oem imports from the factory etc but when i asked he couldnt name which… heh.
heres how they look on my car. I went with 5000k. theyre actually really white and not blue at all. the camera is a little misleading. I dont have any glare issues and the output from the fluted lens although not perfect isn’t as bad aswhat those hidplanet harcores make it out to be.
and here’s how it looks lighting up my garage
i went with this because i couldnt jusify spending the 1000usd doing it the “right way”. i.e. FK lense and retro fit. the output from these generic HID kits will never be as good as having it done properly, but its a nice quick fix until im ready to drop the dough.
