oh idk, 6 days on a beach being catered to. sounded good at the time.
Insane was volunteering at the local fire department to help deliver food to some of the people out the on the back roads and being handed a giant pair of bolt cutters and being told if we find any lines down across the road to just cut them and drag them to the side. NiMo had assured everyone that there was no power in any of the lines even remotely around us and they couldn’t even bring trucks in to start repairs until the roads were cleared, and that couldn’t happen until the big cables weren’t blocking the plows. Still an “oh shit” moment when you go to cut your first power line with a pair of snippers while muttering under your breath “I can’t believe I’m about to do this”.
I’m with Yammy, if I see ANY salt trucks I’m going to shank every single baby that I see for the next 30 years.
Then I’m going to smear peanut butter all over the windshields of the salt truck drivers so squirrels scratch and poop all over their cars/trucks.
And just for good measure, I’m going to sign them all up for H-Date accounts.

You are going to see salt trucks, I will guarantee that. As you should since freezing rain makes the roads pretty much unpassable if untreated.
What scares me is this part of the forecast:

So if they’re wrong about those couple of degrees that result in the changeover from freezing rain to rain (like they were about those couple of degrees in 1998’s ice storm and the Oct Storm) we could see WAY more ice. Like rivaling the 1998 storm levels of ice. Almost certainly won’t happen but the variables are definitely there for “The Perfect Storm, v.Ice”.
Jeebus. I wouldn’t touch a 480V line without verifying that it’s dead. I can’t imagine taking bolt cutters to a 32kv line. I’d probably have a heart attack.
