Sure stock supra trannies have held at over 1000 hp, but how are they treated and how long do they last at that amount of power? Stock honda axles can pull 1.7 60’s all day on cars running 11’s and 12’s all day, but then again I’ve seen them shear on stock B16’s powered cars that would be lucky to run a high 14 sec pass. The thing is if you don’t know how to treat it properly, odds are it will break. Thus why less power would have been a more forgiving time to learn.
Agreed, but as I’m sure you actually do know, nothing about going fast is easy or cheap, especially the faster you go.
you didn’t preload the tranny and that is why you broke axles. preloading requires you to actually have the clutch engage slightly and have the ebrake on. this will do 2 things. it loads the drivetrain so it doesn’t break parts and also compresses the rear suspension so a FWD will launch better.
yea I know, i forgot to do it that time and payed for it. I got mad props from the kiddies in their civics cuz they thought I had mad powa! Ill blame it on Jackie, I think I was so concentrated on tryin to get her out the hole I forgot.
i remedied that by puttin a post it note on my steering wheel whenever I go to the track hahha
damn, i missed this entire thread. amazing what you read when your not at work.
anyways, i think the car in question is bad ass. would i spend over 100k on it, no. but that aint me. i think it has potential though. i would call alot of seat time more than 8 passes. to me, thats still shaking down the car.
either way, atleast he still goes to the track. gotta give him credit for that. i think the 400 would be better than the powerglide too. auto is gonna be the way to go if drag racing and being consistant is all you have in mind. thats on my plate for once i get running on the stick setup.
as for talking shit, he did come off as being pompous at 1st, but has mellowed out. Pittspeed is notorious for busting balls for bench racers. Hence why i dont say shit on what i want my setup to run, as i dont wanna get stuck w/ a tag that i may not meet, then i get lumped as a bench racer.
But we shoudl cut him some slack. hell, he runs the car still even if numbers are sub par for what is done. need to modify the spot between the seat and the wheel/pedals though. Seat time will do this.
he is ok in my book though, and i rode his ass pretty hard in the begining.
not to change the subject or anything but, why are supra’s dyno queens? Why is it that a supra with 600hp is close to any other car with 400hp? I don’t get it.
A 400hp viper or corvette has power off-idle. A 600hp supra has to deal with turbo lag. That means you suddenly transition from 200hp to 500hp in a matter of a few hundred RPM - and usually not until you’re halfway up the tach. Makes it VERY tough to launch.
weight, difficulty to launch … But the supras are running some pretty good times now adays with better clutches, guys are R/Ding wheels/suspension setups ect… the times arent all that bad compared to the power that they are making.
Steel City gets :bigthumb: for running his car. He will attain his goal eventually. First pass is usually a disappointment but you DO have to start somewhere to know where you have to improve upon. Good luck
I dont really think that ANYONE on this board could take a 1000+ hp Supra straight from being built, with the laggy ass turbo that it has, and bust out a 10 sec run your first time out. Im not saying dont bust the kids balls if he cant back up his shit, but give the kid a little seat time before you really start judging his runs.
He put his foot in his mouth a few months ago.
“King of the street”
not busting his balls, but alot of people never forget arrogant statements
I don’t care. Its a nice car, I would drive it :boink
I wanna see some roll racing though
who cares? Roll racing street bikes has nothing to do with 1/4 mile times. Gotta remember that street bikes are HORRIBLY un-aerodynamic at 100mph+ speeds. lotsa drag.
Also depends on the bike and the rider for areodynamics. I have managed the balls to get mine up to 145 and was kissing the tank. It was suprisingly stable and was only in 5th gear with half throttle.
I;m not saying it would be an all out win, I think it would be close though…
