In retrospect im glad the fastest I ever ran at the track was a 13.7… made it all that much sweeter to blow the doors off people that thought they were gonna dust me.

i dunno, i’m kind of confused on the whole situation. i’ve met jp, helped him get an intercooler pipe ready to go to get it tuned, pretty nice guy. yet, i totally understand why you guys bust his balls. he did claim 10’s out of the box. and none of us have yet to see it. sorry man, they are gonna ride your ass, and i probably would too. i completely know where he is coming from. a stick car with gobs of horsepower and no torque is extremely tough to launch at the track. i just question this…

  1. what exactly is your goal for the car?

  2. why have you not put more emphasis on you launches? (tires, rear end, etc?) you have how much money in the car, and are still trying to run drag radials? come on…you have a chute for christ’s sake and haven’t once thought about how you’re gonna get enough traction to need it?

and 3. why didn’t you get more practice in with the older setups? (if 4 months ago is old…) you made an assload of power on the on the old setup and never even really ran it.

i mean, i’ve had a 10 second rear wheel drive car. it’s not the easiest to drive, yet, i don’t think it is as hard as you make it out to be. you launch high, you wheel hop, get out of it, you blow em off, try to keep it straight or back out of it. if you’re scared of breaking shit, why in the hell did you build a 1000+ hp “street car”? they are gonna break shit…it’s just the way it is.

  1. The goal for hte car is to make some good passes and also be one of the most powerful supras in the world.

  2. There is emphasiam on the launch, as i said earlier i sold my 16" drag wheels for smaller ones which i dont have/mounted because i need to run NA brakes, which arent in yet… I wanted to run friday, so i figured to go out and see how it was at the track. This isnt the way im going to run and also the reason why i didnt launch it at 9k on the Drags.

  3. I got a decent amount of time on the first setup … probalby 7-8 passes. Then i decided to go with a built motor and switched turbos. Broke a few things with that turbo at the track, took it once and it made passes at 15psi … i ended up pullin the motor again, redoing the motor again… and putting this turbo on it… like you said your going to break shit and i did, so i kept going up and up.

If i wanted to make this easy i would go back and get my 77mm turbo a th400 strip the car spray a 200 shot and run 8’s. But obviously im not doing it the easy way. Youve driven a 10sec car, which is understandable. But i guarentee no one has driven a car with a turbo that is this laggy. Which i have no one to blame but myself for that one. I am going to stick with it and see if i can handle it … but you see my reasoning? It was my only god damn pass…

yea I cant wait to attempt to launch my car once the new setup gets in and tuned. Ill have to bug Eric for some advice since he is one of the best fwd drivers ive seen.

The way I see it is JP is just a normal dude with a hobby. Its not like he gets up everyday and goes to his speeeeed shop with the goal of building the fastest PRP streetable car ever. Like Im sure he has other things to do in life than be at PRP every night like some people have time for but I think when he gets his practice in it’ll do much better and in the mean time everyone will be riding his balls cause they ain’t got no 1000hp Toyota Suuupra. The next person who starts another SteelCitySupra thread can DIAF!!!

no doubt…i dont fault the dude for tryin to build one of the baddest supras, but u can be claimin that u r comin out easy 10s right off the bat or r in the process of building one of the fastests supras and then run a 13…regardless of if hes still learnin the car or what. dont talk like a Big Tyma if u cant drive the car yet

well either way JP come to the track friday on the radials and launch it a bit harder and see what happens. from the vid it looks like the car goes down the groove once in boost so give it a shot. a harder launch and it will go 11’s

this thread has become alot bigger than i thought it would be :naughty: anyways now that its like 10 pages long i suppose ill write a response as well. back when jp first started the supra i remember the crazy fast times it was claimed to be running. i thought it was awesome that someone local was going to build something like that. i struggle to put together a 12sec civic let alone a 100$+ car so i wanted to see just how fast 100k$ was supposed to be. i think all of us here have heard the stories at the track and the shitty ass times it ran so there is no need to rehash that again. i honestly hope it runs better times because its a waste to if it doesnt. anyways ill be out there fri. nite to see if joes hatch goes 10’s or if the only place it goes is home on a trailer :moon: i guess ill see you guys out there

BTW, do you really think learning to launch your car in general with a stock 6-spd tranny is such a good idea with over 1000 hp? There are definitely ways to launch that are fairly easy on the tranny and ways that are brutally rough. These would have been good things to learn with less horsepower when things would have been more forgiving. Seems to me your window of not destroying the tranny with that much power is very small and you really have no idea where it is. Just seems as others have said that you’ve shelled out a rediculously large amount of money and made some bold statements faster than you most likely should of.

… the stock tranny holds up and people start havin to rebuild around the drag race level of 1100rwhp ect… It will be fine, but that is the weak point of it all.

Well a th400 smaller turbo and nitrous would be easier than trying to maunally launch a 6spd on a 88mm turbo… right?

maybe , but what makes u think u r a good enough driver to ‘easily’ run 8’s nomatter what the set-up…u havent shown that u r even close to that good of a driver.
