I may be building the R34 to suit the Redline Time Attack street class. In the street class (for 2009, at least), they break it down to an East and West region, with four events on each. The east region consists of events at Englishtown, Autobahn Country Club in IL, Carolina Motorsports Park in SC, and Nashville Super Speedway. My plan is to get the car ready for the class in time, with some major seat time in advance. The street class allows for a LOT of mods, and the car should be good for it. It will NOT have a roll cage (not required in any class, only recommended in Modified, Drift, and Unlimited). They allow for the upgraded turbo, fully built motor including head work, and several other things. The only thing I’d have to change from my original plans are a set of wheels really. The maximum width rubber allowed for an AWD car is 255mm. I could get a set of stock wheels, or cheap lightweight aftermarket wheels. The tire also has to be >140 treadwear.
I know JVG plans on doing one or two events in the 240SX as well.
Would you want to cover this event? Since I’ll be driving, I won’t be able to take photos really, so someone would need to come with me. I figure we can have an article written by someone or me. If it’s from someone else, maybe put a little driver’s note in there with stuff that I’d have to say about each event.
I’m assuming the car will be decal’d up for the event w/ Shift/JVG/Rennessy Fabrication livery.
One thing I’ll need is a ‘pit crew.’ I prolly should bring at least two sets of tires/wheels, jack, basic tools, a mechanic. I’m gonna talk to Adam and see if he’s interested in helping with the events. I’ll also see if anyone has an enclosed trailer and truck they wanna bring or let me borrow. I’ll need to get an EZ-up and some other stuff as well.
Who is doing vinyl now that DJ isn’t? I want something cheap, or free if I put one or two of their decals on the car.
I’ll call up my boss tomorrow and let him know. I know he’s not going to be happy with it, but I can usually sway his opinion since I’m the only good worker he has.
Not this year unfortunately. It will be going to a couple track days though. I started ordering some minor stuff for it, and pretty soon I’m gonna get some good track pads.
