Identify this spider... *PIC*

We found this critter in our office yesterday and decided to make a habitat for it.

His body is about 3/4ths of an inch in length with a legspan of ~1.5 inches. What the hell is he?

Notice the lighter skull-like marking on his back. I googled “spider, skull marking” and BROWN RECLUSE came up as a not so dependable source.

ID this spider. Is it really a brown recluse?

p.s. His name is Ned and he’ll be fighting other arthropods and arachnids we find.

p.p.s. Summer hours are killing me already

I hate, spiders

^^ +1

My first thought was brown recluse but not sure.

that is a pretty big spider for Buffalo isn’t it?

I’m pretty scared of spiders also, especially ones with fangs bigger than it’s head. However, they become much less scary when they’re confined in an Anderson’s mini pretzel container.

my first guess would be a wolf spider; they’re not uncommon in this area actually.

nasty little bastards though, and they’re somewhat venomous as far as i know.

edit: let me see if i can find a pic that’s not from AU. lol
that doesn’t lend to the creditability :stuck_out_tongue:

This thing doesn’t have enough hair to be a wolf spider.

ya iw as tinking wofl/…

but he skull on the back… screams brown recluse. <— which means there is more and would be enough for me to leave my job

no hair eh?.. try this website: http://www.enature.com/zipguides/

edit: i guess i’m with Jay & Jon on this one; it looks pretty similar to this: http://www.enature.com/fieldguides/enlarged.asp?imageID=18636

:ohnoes:

I just got a good look at his face. The eye pattern is 2 in front and a pair separated on each side, which is basically exclusively brown recluse. I hope there aren’t any more…

omg…there is most likely more… those things dont just randomly walk around. seriously, i would look into calling someone

^word

Your work should be getting someone in there to kill those things…quick

But they’re called brown RECLUSES!

re·cluse ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rkls, r-kls)
n.
A person who withdraws from the world to live in seclusion and often in solitude.

yea thats a brown recluse. they are very venomess them selves… if theres one theres probably more in proximity.

make the call man

can i have your computer?

I had a friend get bit on his hand by one of those. Doctor said he was lucky he didn’t have to have it amputated. No joke.

It’s alright, i’m pretty bored with my hands anyways.
