Illegal alien? Come to NY and we'll give you a drivers license

[quote=“JayS,post:120,topic:35859"”]

You dance almost as well as Hillary.

Giving a valid NY ID to illegal aliens. Yes or no. That should be more than enough information for a reasonable person to base a decision on. And people say I follow a party too blindly. At least I’ll admit there are things in my party I disagree with (religion, stem cells, abortion). You just can’t seem to bring yourself to admit a democrat is pushing a bad idea, no matter how bad it is. Don’t worry, other democrats in this very state government are publicly bashing Spitzer too.

No, i mean that I don’t know how secure it is or isn’t, what the registration req’s would be, and frankly I don’t care either way at this point. I don’t know why you’re so worried about my views on this topic…

EDIT:
I’m far from spewing the party line. I think affirmative action is a crock of shit, am a pro-gun rights pistol permit holder, and believe in a balanced budget. (Unlike both parties at this point)

If you’re so gung ho about keeping threads merged maybe you should take about 90% of off topic and stick it in one giant “shitty threads in here” thread.

The thought has crossed my mind more than once

Hey, those bastards over in Oklahoma have been reading this board. They took my plan and made it law.

http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=071101_1_A1_hJudg27278

HOUSE BILL 1804
What is it?
A law that goes into effect Thursday that seeks state solutions to illegal immigration.

What does it do?
The law:

Makes it a state felony to knowingly transport illegal aliens.
Creates state barriers to hiring illegal immigrants.
Requires state contractors to check the immigration status of workers after July 1.
Requires proof of citizenship to receive certain government benefits.

Who’s for it?

The law was written by state Rep. Randy Terrill, RMoore, and sponsored by state Sen. Jim Williamson, RTulsa. It passed the state House on a 88-9 vote and the Senate on a 41-6 vote. Gov. Brad Henry signed the bill. The same month that Henry signed the law, an Oklahoma Poll, conducted for the Tulsa World and KOTV, found that one in 10 Oklahoma voters identified illegal immigration as the state’s most pressing problem. Only education was identified more commonly as the state’s priority.

I figured out why this whole idea does not sit well with me: This could be the first step down the slippery slope towards accepting illegal immigrants that come here and don’t contribute. How can we possibly have a policy of anything but pay taxes or get the fuck out? Spitzer wants to legally register someone who is not legally allowed to be here. Isn’t that an impossible contradiction?

Mexicans etc. are coming here whether we like it or not. The only policy change that has a prayer of helping the situation is to streamline the immigration process to get these guys signed up and paying taxes ASAP.

I’ve been bitching about this for a while. it’s retarded. but hey it will “make us safer” :bloated:

BULLSHIT. They’re coming here because we refuse to get tough on immigration. The Soviet Union built a wall in the middle of Berlin in 1960 and made it damn difficult to get across. With all our modern technology we sure as hell could secure a border in the desert if we wanted to.

Our first line of defense on the Mexican border is a bunch of volunteers in pickup trucks with cell phones. And they get demonized for doing what our government refuses to.

Can’t we just brand them?

im suprised i didnt get to comment on this… we discussed in my gay politics class

it sounds dumb… but it actually helps all the people out there getting hit by all the uninsured illegal immigrants in the city… (many)

How? Like I said before, just because they have a license, that doesn’t mean they will then magically afford to insure a car.

Not to mention very few insurers are going to sign a policy without an SSN to do a credit check. And rare ones who would take on such a policy are going to make the rates really high because there is no credit history to base a risk pool on. Not to mention that I’d be willing to bet being an illegal alien puts you in a pretty high risk pool to begin with.

bump

Spitzer is getting his ass handed to him in the polls now.

Linked the liberal, conservative, and generally pretty unbiased news sites.

No way around it, NY hates this plan and they’re quickly starting to hate Spitzer.

The question is, Will NewYorkers hate themselves for being so stupid in electing this clown?

My battle plan.

Unused Phalanx Gun systems deployed on the border.

Border patrol vehicles personal and volunteers are tagged with an RFID chip, any movement detected without the presense of an RFID indication gets shreeded by 20mm rounds.

Machines dont care how many people it shoots, just as long as americans dont wander within range without the tags implanted.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Congressional aides say New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has decided to abandon his plan to issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

Officials familiar with the decision tell The Associated Press that Spitzer will meet Wednesday morning with New York’s congressional delegation. Many of them have openly opposed the
program and debate over the issue has spilled over into the presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because no formal announcement has been made, say that after the meeting, Spitzer will say he is shelving the plan and that immigration is a federal issue to be handled by Washington.

Spitzer has given up his plan. I guess he finally realized that capturing the immigrant vote wasn’t going to do much good for his political future if the other 90% of the country hated him.

I can’t wait to see how he tries to backpeddle from this. Maybe now he can get back on his original goal of fixing the most corrupt state legislature in the US. But more than likely that was just empty promises to get him into an office he’s just using for his future political aspirations.

I can’t wait to see what his next hair-brained(aka harebrained) idea will be.
Maybe a pyramid scheme to raise money for the state?:gotme:

I waiting for the immigrant rights groups to get their sound byte in crying about discrimination toward immigrants while convieniently dropping the “illegal” part of “illegal immigrant”.

 That reminds me, I saw some fine examples of the human race on the news last week. They were standing outside the Cheektowaga DMV protesting against opposition to Spitzer’s plan holding signs saying such obviously valid things like:

“NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL”

Uhh… Yes, actually there are many human beings that do things illegally thus making themselves illegal.

This isn’t a human rights issue. Fucking cause-heads. Nuke the whales!
