imma throw my car out. and my phone.

E46 sedan

So from your description of how you use the DSC, it sounds like DSC uses ABS to control the car. So the most likely case is that since the ABS is not working, your DSC is unable to function. If you don’t think that your WSS’s are bad, then you may want to look into the ABS controller itself. Also, check the obvious stuff. It’s possible that the fuse for the ABS controller popped when you shut the car down last night.

Factory Service Manuals usually have pretty good troubleshooting steps for this kind of thing. Do you have one or can you find one?

i started to think abs sensor…im not sure could be a fuse because when i went to lunch the lights were on when i started it…when i started driving, theywent off …by the time i got to my destination they came back on…so off and on prob not a fuse … i might just take a hammer when i get home and start hitting things under the hood see if i can straighten anythign out

That sounds like a short or a loose connection.

If it is a major short, then you would probably subsequently blow a fuse. Sounds like there is either a loose wire somewhere, or your ABS module is just on its way out.

check to see if the fluid is just low. he said it was the red brake light that was on with the dsc light. this is the one that turns on if the fluid is low, not just the ebrake being engaged. if thats what is triggering it, then i would take a look at the rubber sections of the brake lines at each corner, they might be dry rotted or slowly leaking.

i have the bentley service manual if you want to stop by and take a look through it.

edit, if it was a bad abs sensor, i would image the yellow brake light would be on instead of the red one. yes, these wear / go bad and will turn the light on even if the brakes have life, but i dont see that being the issue since the yellow light is not on.

My Passat had the same thing, it was the Electronic Brake Control Module. My S10 actually just had the same fucking thing happen. If it is the module, I had mine rebuilt at module masters dot com. They did a good job and were much cheaper than other places.

X…

right?

Why is the alarm thing such a big deal? The fact that people consolidate multiple devices and use the functions of a product really surprises you guys that much?

EDIT- You guys are really… ALARMED by tihs.

lol

Seriously. I still carry around a cell phone and a palm pilot. And a calculator. Using one device for multiple purposes is just asking for trouble.

I had a similar issue when I had my e46. It was the steering angle sensor. Dealer only item to fix and reprogram. I had an AWD e46 though.

Im gonna be the first jackoff to tell you to GET IT SCANNED …

and not by some shit tool at vato zone … take it to Jason at black forest or Pat at elma

people from sanborn don’t need abs and traction control.

Plenty of cars kill the traction control when there is an issue, I had a 97 grand am that would turn it off when the cel came on for slow vac.

I’m glad I don’t have tc, so annoying to have to turn it off every time I get in the car. ABS is annoying too, interferes way too early.

Good luck though, should just take the bulb for the light out.

Dont be a FGGT, DSC off ALWAYS!!! On a serious note though, my sensors are shot in the front my E36 and I just un-grounded them from the spindles and I have just the DSC/ABS lights on. Id check the connections there, could just be corroded.

i also have the bmw specific peak code reader/reset tool if he wants to use that for some reason as well…
