Importing cars from u.s

well basically I want to know everyone’s view on this.

I’ve been doing a bit of research and so far… it seems pretty complicated.

You can check out the link for the information on how to do it.

http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html

I’m pretty sure other people have maybe done this already or thought about it and gone further into research than I have.

I know that you’re not aloud to import 1990-1991’s because of the seat belt reg’s & you also have to put in day time running lights and stuff of that sort, but if anyone is willing to basically summarize what it consists of. You know, pricing along with the flaws, benefits, and difficulties.

I’m sure I’m not the only one interested to hear.

Depends on the car i suppose. My cousin is gonna be transferring his Civiv to canadian registration from the US.

He needs to put in an infant seatbelt?? And DTRLs.

He went to a place at Dixie/401 West, and they assess the car for import.

how do they assess a car for import if the car is in the states though?

This link might clear some things up: http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/impusae.htm

Yea, that comes right out of the link that I posted, I’ve already read it, but I dont know how the tariffs & taxes would work out… stuff like that.

If the car is over 15 years of age, it doesnt have to be on the RIV allow list.

If it was built BEFORE 1992 i believe, it doesnt need DTRLS…

This is from memory, so I might be a bit rusty.

PM me if you need details, I know enough people who have imported from the US, and I plan on doing it in the future too. (near future)
