in-car video camera systems

may be an interesting topic…

what is awesome out there for in-car video?

i mean something that is full time with a harddrive (or wifi) that captures HD video and sound?

seems like having a dash cam (or more) is a pretty important things these days.

i’ve done a bit of googling and searching the bmw forums but would like to know what you guys see out there.

these are two of the ones i’m seeing that come recommended:

JENSEN FLIP-OUT! (Inside joke, I’m totally kidding)

yeah anyways, i mean more for capturing the stuff going on around you not watching in-car porn.

Oh, you’re talking about in-car video CAMERAS not video screens / players.

Why do you need this again? It’s not like insurance fraud is rampant like in mother Russia. Security?

If you just want to film stuff get a GoPro?

Fixed your thread title

thread is about what are the nicer options out there, not why

lots of reasons to have a good dash cam these days.

If you say so, lol.

I’d still like to build a t-top camera for my Z out of an old t-top, but a fixed camera (even with pivots / swivels) is still too limited.

Have dash cams in all of the cars in the family including the 240. Had them before they became cool on the internet lol.
Definitely a good investment if you want to free yourself from headaches during unfortunate events.

The one we have is similar to this:

I’ve been wanting to get one. already been screwed over once with an accident an old fart caused and no witnesses. a dick head cop who Favorited the old farts statement over mine. $100 to have that extra insurance seems pretty good.

Blackvue and the fineVu are pretty much the best ones on the market right now, that I know of… I’ve installed both on different vehicles.

Blackvue is good, but some people had problems with it “overheating” after a while. I like how you can customize the LED light to the side of it. As in what color to show in different modes plus it has the GPS trip logger built in.

The finevue one is very similar but a bit bulky for my liking. Plus no GPS logging straight out of the box I don’t think…

If you get either one bing, get what’s known as a “power module pro” it’s pretty much a timer for the camera power so it only stays on for a set amount of time

The one with the motion sensor that turns on and records is cool.

Where can you get the finevu in the states? Ebay the only option?

$20 and a left over 8gb sd card gets me 50min of decent video. Enough to see fault at least.

Red flag deals usually have group guys on these things
Check em out just google it

I use the GoPro Hero HD3 silver edition. It is Wi-Fi enabled so you can control everything from your smartphone. Here’s my setup:

(Sorry the picture is so huge, I don’t know how to resize it.)

i wouldnt want to drive around with that all the time with that rig set up.

the other two mentioned sit subtley on the dash or windshield.

It comes with a few different mounts. If you like the camera, you could easily mount it anywhere on the dash via a slim quick release mount.

Seems like a good idea. Prices seem pretty fair for what you get.

The blackvue looks like a nice unit. Slim too so it would be easy to mount.

sooooo is a SON/NYSPEED group buy in order?

Not for blackvue prices. When they used to be in the $250 range I was going to buy one but not at current prices.

ahh i forgot what its called but there are ones that record your cockpit/outside even while the car is off …pretty neat
