So I did a search couldnt find anything simular… I just started my car out of curiousity seeing now that i have a beater for the winter, It took a while to fire up and when it did and was missing, also the smell of gas was very strong. So i went out for a short cruise and every time I hit full boost it would backfire!! I dont have a vac leak cause im boost gauge is hitting the stock 7psi-8psi. After the drive the engine was firing smooth, I didnt see any black smoke at idle so im wondering if its my injectors and if anyone has had simular issues, the plugs were changed in the fall the old ones were kinda black and my fuel filter is a year old. The eninge is a Redtop SR thnx…
get your plugs out and see their condition. (take them out after a few hours from a good drive, where you rev good, cruse and minimum idle and have fully warmed the engine.)
to see whats up with it check http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/engine/plugs.html or just google spark plug diagnostic.
get a o2 wide band.
but misfiring is ignition related not fuel.

thanks for the input man, but wouldnt a shitty spray pattern cause a simular issue?
Sticky injectors maybe?
ok so i drove the car again today and zero problems… maybe because it was wamer?? could the cold be effecting my injector spray pattern?? has anyone else had this problem? and also is it ok to thrown in injector cleaner??
Put in some sea-foam, half of it or 3/4 even in a full tank and give it a nice drive. Highway driving would be good, hopefully that should help clear out the injectors. You’ll notice a difference in idle & power delivery (smoother) if your injectors need a clean, it’s perfectly fine to do for any motor really. Done it for my SR, and all other vehicles.
Or take advantage of it fully and do it through the brake booster as well to clean your intake system and watch it smoke for a lil bit while haha clean up all that crap!
probably just the gas sitting around everywhere that long brought some residue with it.
thanks for the input guys i’ll try your suggestions and keep you posted!
Wrong.
What he’s describing could very well be a/multiple stuck open injector(s) flooding a/multiple cylinder(s) on a cold start, once it’s been sitting for a while. The misfire won’t last long in most cases (once its been running for a bit), but it can definitely happen, especially if the car hasn’t been running in a while. Plus, the cold weather doesn’t help. I’ve seen it on multiple occasions…
I would try running some form of injector cleaner through it to be safe, and see if the problem comes back after it sits for a while again. That stuff is usually cheap and easy to use anyways, so there’s no harm in trying that first. Another thing you can try is remove the fuel rail from the intake manifold, with the injectors and everything else still in tact, and put some printer paper or something similar (but clean) underneath each injector nozzle. Prime the fuel pump (cycle the ignition on/off a few times), and let it sit overnight. If you see/smell any fuel on the paper/whatever you used, you will know which, if any, are leaking.
Very helpfull thanks man!
picked up some Lucas Injector Cleaner today gonna throw it in and go for a run when its a bit warmer, i’ll keep this updated!!
Most likely just from sitting
SUCCESS!! I threw in some cleaner last night and ripped down the highway, the car was backfiring like crazy between shifts and coasting, throwing massive flames!! but the more i drove the less it backfired… She started up today smooth and no sputtering…
I think my hunch was right and the injectors must have been stuck open or bad spray pattern… and thnx for your advice everyone!!
