Innovative Tuning Rally STI first test - GoPro video and pics

Looks like alot of fun…When did u pick up the passenger along the way hahah

hehe. I wanted to use some in car footage from my Hero2 camera so I jumped that in with footage from the Hero cameras from my best run. I had a passenger for all runs except my last.

Wow, that rally cross course doesn’t look like a GD corn field like most of the ones I’ve seen. Car looks slow…

Looks like fun  nice driving mike.

Pretty awesome

Is this Jon’s old car?

Looks like a lot of fun. Pretty impressive looking course too.

i could definitely get into this

Yes what’s left of his car is pretty much the shell/cage, coilovers, and the duct in the fender that identifies it as his old shell which turned out to cause water to dump on the air filter during water crossings so Jon was going to get rid of it. I haven’t bought another fender yet, but don’t have any events scheduled involving water so I’m leaving it as is for now. The engine bay was empty and we were given a transmission and turbo that turned out to be broken, the brakes and coilovers were seized, wiring was a nightmare, no seats/harnesses, no engine harness or ECU, no lights etc. We knew turning it into a car again would be take some work, but we hoped some of the old parts would work and that just wasn’t the case. It was almost as much work as building it from scratch, but I put that out of my mind after having fun driving it.

We built an engine for it and supplied all engine related parts including the harness and modified it for the sensors etc. we added, sourced a turbo, clutch/flywheel, put a ViPec in it, seats and harnesses, gauges, made an intake and charge piping, made an exhaust for it, removed the gas tank and repaired it and the cover for it then reinstalled it, etc. etc. There’s still a lot of old wiring that’s sketchy which we will be removing, but we’ve bypassed most of it for now.

Good deal. Yea I ran into him last week and he told me you had it. Glad to see it up and running again!

Cool. We had talked to Jon about potentially taking over prep of the car and supplying an engine package that could get him to the next level with it years ago, but everyone ditched Group N and costs to rally competitively on a national level in open class got real high due to the factory backed Subaru cars, Ken Block, Travis Pastrana, etc. so Jon decided it was time to pack it up. The car sat apart for years after a failure on track and one day Jon offered to sell me what was left. Now we get to do what we had in mind. The car made 300 whp unrestricted when Jon had it (on a higher reading dyno) and it makes 400 whp now on a stock STI turbo and it has a massive powerband with super quick response so we’ve made some big progress already. I haven’t totally decided what we’ll do with the car in the future, but I’m happy it’s being sorted out too.

Yea I miss the days before Block and Pastrana got involved and when Jon was racing; haven’t been to STPR in a while.

With her back up and running better than ever do i forsee a stab at Wellsboro in the near future:snky:

No STPR this year, but I may do something else with it soon. I’ll be reviewing the rules next week when I have a minute and we’ll announce it if we’re going.

Cool stuff, Mike.

Looking forward to it
