i agree a whole bunch…Joseph you have the lotus which in itself has a pretty expensive maintenance cost and an f-ing sweet car, sure the MR2 is cheaper and not really fast but a fun car to drive…a RSX is more than capable of throwing around a track from occasion and gets good MPG…remember you want your NSX in a couple years…
Sti gets about 15-18mpg realistically.
It’s also going to be FAR more to insure than your esprit.
Sti + 240sx = 3600 a year
Elise + civic = 2000 a year
Elise + Sti = 3800 a year
for me.
yours might be lower because you have a better record, but evos and stis are very expensive to insure.
I’m confused why you still have that MR2. Dump that thing and use it for the DP on a new car.
he will never sell the MR2, he plans on restoring like the whole car…
I daily drive a 1994 Toyota Camry. its slow as balls but gets great fuel economy, its autotragic which is really nice with the constant stop and go of city driving, its been extremely reliable only having to replace a radiator so far, and the best part…i dont owe a penny on it.
if your just looking for a daily driver why spend all that money on something exciting when you already have 2 cars that can satisfy your craving? i know its hard for an auto enthusiast to do but consider getting something boring and bulletproof. you will not regret the decision and when you do hop in one of your fun cars…it will make the experience that much more enjoyable.
I think you should get the RSX…it’s classy, has decent gas mileage and is fun to drive…It would be a nice add to your array of vehicles.
Agreed ^
Positives:
- can track the car with only pads and fluid and have a blast.
-AWD is always a plus
-responds to mods very well
-4g63 is not anything new, tried and proven motor, lots of big # cars on stock blocks still and driveline.
-you can pick up a used one for a decent price
-lots of local support in tuning/modding etc.
-steering is quick, feel is fantastic, drives very well.
-Seats are very nice, supportive and good daily.
Negatives:
-Maintience, can get pricey -drivetain fluids, pads are pricey, belts and etc…
-Mitsu dealers suck (at least in buffalo).
-Gas mileage-I average about 20mpg with city/highway mix.
-Its a firm ride, an aggressive daily driver for sure.
-Steering is quick, but the lock to lock is only like 2 turns. Not the best car for tight spaces. (drive one you will see…)
Not sure if you have driven one before, but If you would like you can drive mine anytime. Its a lightly modded daily driver.

LOL his hatred runs deep. :word: I do have to wonder though…has MPD ever driven one at the track? I kind of dont understand why he hates a car that performs soo well? Just cause it has a transfer case? He’s a funny guy. I would buy and evo out of spite then

I think I said this last time this thread came up on evo vs. sti - the maintenance schedule (dealer maintenance schedule) for the STi is not bad at all. Mostly just fluid changes through 60K even 60K I think it only has inspect belts, all though i’d likely replace them just for good measure.
I understand the evo maintenance schedule is a bit more “preventative” in nature. They very well could actually require the same maintenance, mitsu may just be more cautious?
Civic SI i would go with.
my insurance isnt bad for my STI, i pay 140 a month fully insured and i had a pretty bad record.
How many of these threads have to be created? It’s the EVO vs STI thread x100, just with an RSX and civic SI thrown into the mix, which are basically identical cars.
we should have evo vs. sti sticky, with real info and just be done with it
either that or just banish the question, its hella annoying to constantly discuss
Based on everything you are looking for, I think the Civic or RSX best fit the bill. They have much better reliability and gas mileage than the evo/sti and it looks like this car will never make it to the track. If you want a “nice” daily, I think either one of these is nicer with respect to interior than an evo or sti and I think you may even want to consider a BMW as well. My $.02
Having owned both, I don’t think I would purchase either again as a pure daily if I have interest in doing track events, but won’t go there with this car.
joe just buy the rsx and take the rear seats out, it’ll be perfect for you
for real if you want to spend that much cash on a daily…nice IS300 or 3-series BMW
yea, driving to bubble tea meets you need the rigidity that a cage provides, also never know, you might go off the road and roll it.
I do rear diff + trans + tranny fluids every 20K-ish, book says 30k and 15k if you drive the car hard LOL…
Trans fluid = $50
Diaqueen $25 each time (large bottle, you get 2 changes for $50)
Serpentine Belt= Done 2 of them $75 at dealer, napa gates belt $40
Pads: OEM brembos… forget it they are nuts Ferrodo fronts $200 and rears $100
Rotors are fairly expensive, I have not replaced them yet.
Rear o2 sensor: $200 (this was my fault, wires rubbed throught from placement) Bosch universal for like $50 solved.
Tires: New set every spring, its hard on tires, well maybe I am
Timing belt and balace belt: being done this week. But thats the same on most cars…
Jeller
nah - i think these cars eat tires… if i had the money i’d go through two sets of azenis every summer (with autocross abuse). One set per summer has me riding bald tires by the last two events.
